The FBI will investigate, and find nothing new
The Dems will try to delay further (snakes gonna snake)
McConnel will hold the line to a week
He doesn’t have the math. The only way this works is if he can get to 51.
If this happens and the FBI finds nothing, then Kav has less false stink on him
The “moderate”/swing Dems will have no political cover
He’ll get Flake, Murkowski and Collins by doing this.
The more democrats try to frick around with this with no credible evidence, the worse they look to middle-of-the-road voters.
This is Win/Win
And if Kav is guilty (he’s not) then he shouldn’t be on the court.

Honestly, this isn't about an FBI investigation. It won't matter what the FBI finds or how long it takes to investigate, it will never be enough for Kavanaugh's name to be cleared in the eyes of Democrats.
The stalling is simply to give more time for Kavanaugh "victims" to crawl out of the woodwork. Flood the airwaves. The ultimate goal is to give enough cover for 2 squishy Republicans to bail on Kavanaugh and torpedo his nomination.

bullshite. If you give in here then you give them the opportunity to delay forever based on investigations into nonsense allegations ad nauseum.
The investigation is over.
Ford doesn't remember any details of the event.
Kavenaugh denies it happened.
All three witnesses Ford herself named including her own best friend denied it happened.
There is nothing left to investigate, it is 36 years old, there is not one single piece of corroborating evidence.

The only thing that the dems are looking for is time to work Flake, Murkowski and Collins and Manchin. Get them to see their way and use every angle to do so while trying to build public sentiment in their favor through the complicit media.
Meanwhile, if they can make it to the election, use this as a talking point, and take over the senate (not likely) they'll have effectively taken over control of the court.
A lot of pieces have to fall in place for them, but crazier things have happened.

Right now the Dems have some ground because of the doubt. Give them exactly what they are begging for (an FBI investigation) and when it comes out inconclusive they have nowhere to go.
They'll still vote against him but many are not adept enough to do so without showing themselves as hyper-partisan.
And if, for some crazy reason, the allegation turned out to be demonstrably true then:
1. We don't want him on SCOTUS anyway
2. Grassley, Flake, etc can claim a win for their bi-partisanship and call that marker in on the next candidate.
