He'll look like Abe Lincoln trying to keep the racists from leaving the union

I am more thinking along the lines of a voting rights act violation charging racial gerrymandering. The white part of a unified city-parish government seeks to form its own much whiter city, with (presumably) white council members looking to spend money that is currently overseen by a much more diverse Metro-council.
Do I think that is the correct application of the law? Dunno. Would I be worried about it if I was one of the St. George leaders? Very much so. You would be foolish if you don't at least think an injunction will be filed.

You have a very valid point.

Yah it's pretty cut and dried. There's no way this will work in 2014. This is such an embarrassment.

What's an embarrassment is the EBR government school system.

I really hate to see my taxes go up. But I guess the St. George people don't care about that

Send your kids to private school then. When you decided to live in BR you knew about the public school system.
And like Russian said, this segregation will likely only make the existing BR schools worse.

Stop believing the race baiters. EBRPSS is 85% black as of now. St.G will be nearly 50/50.

Many are forced to.

Did you mean EBR? He doesn't live in BR.

Russian didn't say that at all. In fact, he said the incorporation will have no effect on the EBR School System.

And posters like you make me hope the incorporation happens and you see your property taxes double within 3 years.......
I don't live in St. George, bitch

So you don't care if those who do live in SG see their property taxes double? Okay, makes sense, I guess.....

SG might incorporate but that won't create a new school district. There is no way the rest of EBR parish will vote to allow SG schools to break off from the EBR school system.

I absolutely don't care if those who live in SG have their property taxes doubled given that they would be choosing their own path. Why would I need to save St. George from themselves?
Also, I think your "doubling" of property taxes is a ridiculous estimate.

There was "no way" we would ever get 17k signatures, either.

This is the dirty secret. From the beginning, the whole thing was a ploy to get a new fiefdom.
People look at Central and think it applies to them. Central had to buck desegregation. Deseg ended a couple of years ago so it doesn't apply to SG anymore.
