The problem is that shite like this fricks up the market for everyone. Like it or not California is a gargantuan consumer market and they drive product decisions.

That is on tire companies, they can simply ignore it. If they band together, California cannot do a thing. Same as oil companies leaving the state.
These companies are more powerful than the state of California and they need to flex.

Could they be doing this to manufacture more accidents, cause increases in insurance rates, to reduce private automobile ownership, and enforce a mass transit system?

I posted this weeks back.
Avg set of tires going to go up like 300 bucks and need to be replaced more often.
All in the name of the environment bc less drag/tread gets a couple of miles more per tank of gas.
Forget the fact that there is going to be tons more waste from this along with more shipments, thus more 18 wheelers transferring tires, etc...

Sliding around on hard compound and shallow-tread tires is for real, especially in the rain. How are the car insurance rates in CA by the way?
