Doesn't look like it. Seems like they left it out.

So what do you get if you add what the area will continue to pay in dedicated parish property taxes with the "Proposed Annual Budget for the City of St. George"?

The real problem is that the personalities in this issue have become so polarized that any actual solution is impossible. The EBRPSB and the StG people need to get together to work something out within the current framework and not blow up the City-Parish system (which has worked very well to this point).
excellent point.

Well obviously, if you add anything to the denominator, you get a smaller number, yes. Why not throw state and federal taxes in as well? May as well just add in whatever numbers you like if you feel like no one is really paying attention.

In terms of the revenue to the CITY of St. George, however, are you suggesting the document with the 80 million dollar figure posted by the St. George people is not an accurate reflection of the city's revenue? Because the document that St. George posted says "Proposed Budget for the City of St. George" and the % of revenue to the CITY that is sales tax as outlined in this budget is 84%. That's simple math.

I supposed St. George was just pointing out "Hey, if you add some numbers to the denominator, it gets smaller, see! FACT!"

Or is it more like "The budget is small when we want to make it look small, but when we want sales tax revenue to look small, the budget is bigger - FACT!"

Why should parish taxes be included in the city's budget?

Those are PARISH taxes not available to the SG city.

Not weird if you follow the money. LR makes a lot of money from government contracts and is connected with state senator Bodi "Boss Hogg" White.
and who is connected to Woody J. and Gene Mills. btw - excellent point

Not so.

I know a couple of conservatives in the area opposed to St. George. They kinda don't like the idea of more government - they tell me less government is the conservative way.

Is there any kind of twist of logic they might be using to include it - or is it really just as simple as "hey, we don't like this fraction - so we'll add something to the denominator to make it smaller!" ?

The SG area will continue to pay state and federal taxes just like they will continue to pay dedicated parish property taxes.

Two questions.

Why the need by some to insult the thousands of Magnet parents?

Why would a Magnet parent want their kid to transfer OUT of BRMHS and into "the new and improved" Woodlawn?

So then, why not throw state and federal taxes in as well?

The claim the Residents Against the Breakway made was that 84% of the revenue to the city would be from sales tax. This claim is supported by data provided by St. George supporters.

The fact that if you add more to the denominator, the fraction gets smaller - is a FACT - but its not really relevant. We could add infinity to the denominator and get zero if we wanted, but so what?

Good points and I agree. This is a school system issue. There are potential solutions (like a series of charter schools created by the EBRPSB but under the management of a St. george board).

They need to focus on the real issues.

Exactly, which is why they are not included in the "Proposed Annual Budget for the City of St. George".

I think that is a terrific idea!

The problem I see with this (from the SG promoters point of view) is that they will not control the money, which is their primary goal.

Bodi White won't be able to broker real estate deals like he would to a new school district.

They wouldn't and I wouldn't expect them to. That's why they are against it.

But their rebuttal to the "Better Together" group's presentation was to INCLUDE them in the St George tax numbers.

What is your point? You seem to be arguing both sides of the issue.

As I wrote earlier, I don't understand why Rainey even felt the need to address the sales tax point made by the BT group, unless he's preparing to answer what happens if BR keeps the sales taxes in the Mall of Louisiana so he needs to pad the tax collection numbers from other sources.
