born to run was an enormous hit, got him on the cover of time and newsweek, a decade before born in the usa

here's the thing little boy, i graduated from college in 1983 he had one hit born to run released in 1975 he had another covered by manfred mann blinded by the light in 1976. if he had died in 1983 no one would have known who he was, jim croce had a bigger legacy in 1983 than bruce springstein,

without born in usa there is no bruce springstein and it all happened before you were born shcit stain.

I've always thought he was a pretentious douchebag who made two or three not great but catchy songs 40+ years ago.

Springsteen should be in a Senior assisted living home. He's clearly mental.

neither your usual unhinged boomer rant nor your butthurt about someone saying hurty words about donald john trump have any bearing on the success of born to run as a record. 7x platinum and entered into the library of congress as culturally significant
sad!

The Pete Holmes vid calling out Springsteen's creepy lyrics from the 1985 song 'I'm on fire' are spot on. Here are the lyrics for those that aren't familiar:

Hey, little girl, is your daddy home?
Did he go away and leave you all alone?
I got a bad desire
Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire

Tell me now, baby, is he good to you
And can he do to you the things that I do?
Oh no, I can take you higher
Oh-oh-oh, I'm on fire

Sometimes it's like someone took a knife, baby, edgy and dull
And cut a six-inch valley through the middle of my skull

At night, I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the middle of my head

Only you can cool my desire
Oh-oh-oh, I'm on fire
Oh-oh-oh, I'm on fire
Oh-oh-oh, I'm on fire
Ooh-ooh, ooh
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

All in all, F that yankee POS lib.

Bull fricking shite

If he had never done Born in the USA his legacy would have been cemented.

Boomer political Bruce is annoying but Greeting From Asbury Park, NJ through The River was a great a run as anyone has ever had.

He wrote his own music for a long time. Props for that

He always struck me as a fake. Just another guy from the city doing a crappy job at pretending to be from the farm.

I don’t think he is a nepo baby or anything, I just hated his shtick.

I always thought that bastard was cringe. He’s always been an annoying, holier than thou libtard. In the same vein as Bono, Roger Waters and other Boomer douchebags.
His music is boring too.

by the end of 1975 it had sold 700,000 it's sales took off after born in the USA. again i was alive then you were still a brown stain on your mothers mattress.

here's a list of artist more popular than bruce sprigstein before 1984

sheena easton
depeche mode
prince
micheal jackson
little river band
doran doran
journey, foreigner and styxx
the commodores, spinners and the o'jays
the carpenters
james taylor, carly simon and carol king
chicago
air supply let that sink in
toto
steely dan
melisa manchester
gordon lightfoot
the who and the guess who and BTO
jim croce
cheap trick
super tramp
flock of sea gulls
thomas dolby
OMD

and the list goes on and on. springstein signed his contract with columbia in 1972 10 years after bob dylan signed his and was on the brink of failure it's the whole point of his biopic

i was there boy and you've read wikipedia.

i'm enjoying the house you'll never live in!

Big Springsteen fan in the 70's/80's. Soundtrack to my late teens/early 20's. He sharply faded creatively after Lucky Town/Human Touch IMO, until 9/11 inspired The Rising. I can remember hearing him saying some anti-Bush stuff in the early 2000's, and although I wasn't really a fan of Bush, I thought it was shitty the way he talked about the POTUS.

I still listen to that early stuff quite, even though I now think Bruce is a conceited POS.

I can understand folks not liking his music even back in the day. His voice is ... an acquired taste and his lyrics can certainly be contrived.

Born In The USA has been mentioned and was a big hit, but IMO, it's maybe the 10th best song on a 12 track album.

I leave you with some of my favorite Bruce live performances.

early 70's stuff

For You

Incident on 57th Street

from Born in the USA

No Surrender

from 9/11 inspired The Rising

Empty Sky

You're Missing
