I found this on Youtube and thought there were some pretty interesting dynamics in play. Apparently, in 1970 the Women's Liberation movement would've still been in its' infancy.

Anyway, Playboy magnate Hugh Hefner had already been on as a guest. Two female writers and feminists are introduced, and they get into some interesting conversation with Hefner, Cavett, etc.

Just found it interesting. The women obviously don't care for Hefner, and yet in 1970 each side would actually sit and listen to each other regardless of the contentious nature of the back-and-forth. Much more civilized, for example, than anything I saw from the Democrats today while talking to AG William Barr.

Personally, I didn't get a good vibe from either woman. Seemed to me like they were early examples of what has become the victimhood mindset we know all-too-well today. I was also a little surprised that I didn't see more virtue-signaling from lifelong liberal Dick Cavett, but perhaps the idea of Women's Liberation wasn't too popular circa 1970.

One thing's for sure. 1970 was a whole different world from 2020. Then again, 2019 was a whole different world from 2020.

What a different time. While I almost certainly wouldn't have liked those women very much, at least they could have a fricking discussion with someone they disagreed with without melting into a puddle of goo.

Can you even imagine a conversation on stage with two prominent feminists today and whomever today's equivalent of Heffner would be to feminists?

shite. That's a show that Maury Povich would lather over!!!

I can't imagine a semi-civil conversation of that sort taking place on any late night (or afternoon) talk show that exists today. And those two women are the prototypes for the men-hating harpies of present day. The hate of men, especially men that love traditional women, is palpable.

The relative civility here among "enemies" was astonishing by current standards. Attitudes have certainly changed, but there's no doubt in my mind that a general "dumbing down" of the American population has taken place over the past 50-60 years.

I was impressed with Hugh Hefner. Say what one will about his various business endeavors, but he was obviously an intelligent and articulate man.

Of course, there was one thing that wasn't different from today. They were all liberals.

Oh what a country we'd have if our counterparts on the Left were "classic liberals" instead of America-hating, white-people-loathing, deranged SJWs.

Terrific comment. There wasn't a Jerry Nadler, Nick Cannon or Alyssa Milano in the bunch.

Indeed, he was a literary critic at heart who realized his publication would sell better if it included bob pics

Agreed. He put out a liberal journal, with nekkid ladies. And both were appealing. The liberal articles were enlightening and opened my mind. Changed my mind even.

Conservatism isn't, despite what leftists spew, about no change and no progress. Conservatism is about holding on to what is good and adapting, at a sustainable rate, to what must improve.

Go back and watch an early Firing Line and compare it to ... ANYTHING on the air today!

Americans have become simpletons.

It’s funny how they blame Hugh Hefner as if he isn’t a byproduct of feminism. Yes, women are being treated as objects and they are letting themselves for fame and money.

When society tells a woman she has to work and make something of herself, some will do good, but most will be miserable. Some will have no talent to make it and resort to all sorts of prostitution.

There was a time in my life when, even though I was still overall conservative, I had significant agreements with such people.

Now, they're all effectively dead. They still theoretically exists but, for the most part, they've become a sad group.

VERY FEW people who used to be classical liberals seem to have any grasp on what's happening to liberalism overall. Instead, they seem to have placed their heads in the sand and continue to believe that somehow, their type of liberalism is the norm among people who call themselves "liberals".

We see a few here and there starting to say, "holy shite, what's happening". But, they seem few and far between.

I believe everyone has certain talents. Hef created a platform for women who were talented in a specific way. Isn’t that what just about all businesses attempt to do?

For example, some people have the ability to efficiently place a size 7 basketball into an 18 inch steel hoop whilst others are attempting to prevent them from doing so. Hence, they utilize a platform known as the NBA.

There's a chance those women are still alive or, at least women like them.

One has to wonder what they think of our entire Instawhore culture. They always used to blame the men who owned things like Playboy and strip clubs. But Instawhores are self guided whores...…..Do these feminists view THAT as "free women" or, as "oppressed women"?

So much easier for them to play the victim rather than create a logical rebuttal. Actually at this point a logical rebuttal would be an impossibility for them. Emotional rants/appeal is all they have left.

I'm no fan of Clinton sycophant Lanny Davis, but even he is appalled by some (much?) of what he's seeing from the Left these days. He said recently that the "peaceful protesters" in Portland and Seattle might as well be wearing Trump buttons because that's who they are helping.

You know how far the Left has regressed when some scumbag like Lanny Davis is the comparative voice of reason.

I clicked knowing that this was going to be the Hefner interview.

They don't let the other side speak. That strategy pervades all of their activist arms.
