New York Times essay argues Southerners will 'die unnecessary deaths' because of Republican focus on 'freedom'

Liberal columnist Margaret Renkl argued that some matters were 'too important to be entrusted to state governments anymore.'

There's a lot of stupid in the article; I know this doesn't shock anyone.

As bad as state governments are, the federal government tends to be several orders worse.

If they really believed this, they would be celebrating and trying to keep Southerners from getting it.

Everyone knows that White, Christian, Southern, Males are the real problem in society.

Northerners will die unnecessary deaths because liberals don't grasp the concept of freedom.

When you slide into a secular worldview where the purpose of life is to simply stay alive as long as possible, I can see why people would have a difficult time understanding why accepting "unnecessary deaths" in exchange for freedom isn't a bad deal.

I doubt they teach this as a good thing in school these days.

If you don’t believe in the statement you can’t call yourself an American in my book

Republicans focus on individual freedom more than Democrats? That's impossible. Lots of posters here say both parties are the same.

She’s one of those insufferable natives of the glorious South who moves to a liberal enclave and commences to enthrall the worldly sophisticates with tales of her exotic, but sadly backward homeland.

Also lololol at “ freedom from death “. And she speaks of platitudes…

So true! And as William Wallace pointed out, regret of not fighting for freedom is powerful. Without freedom, you don’t have much to live for, especially when you have tasted freedom.

Let’s cut to the chase…the Dems have in one form or another always been about enslaving folks. Whether it was the detestable holding of slaves in the traditional sense or the enslaving of folks mentally…that is still heinous. Look at how they use fear to control their rank and file. Sit back and consider how the left infests so many aspects of life and destroys what it touches. It’s pervasive and repugnant!

The push back it is starting to get is refreshing however!

Sounds like a bitch I went to school with.

Talks about how hard she had it down here while going to the most expensive school in town as the child of two doctors and driving a Corvette to school.

Here lets fix that...Liberal, marxist, radical left columnist Margaret Renkl argued that some matters were 'too important to be entrusted to state governments anymore.

Literally using fear to herd people towards wanting more powerful central government.
