Good Lord. It is fictional soap opera, not an historical documentary.

By definition, they ARE. It is not the norm to mate outside of your race. It happens, it has always happened, but in relatively small numbers. Most people mate within their own race. Thus, the opposite is abnormal. Abnormal simply means "not the norm".

bullshite, it does not simply mean "not the norm." Are they uncommon? Yes. Are they abnormal? Nope, use another word.

From Merriam-Webster: abnormal- deviating from the normal or average; often : unusual in an unwelcome or problematic way

Why do you find interracial relationships unusual, unwelcome or problematic?

quote:

Different races mating is always going to draw eyes. Same sex mating is always going to draw eyes. Because it happens. It has always happened. But it isn't, and never will be, "the norm". You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. And THAT'S why people are talking about these commercials. Because people see them for what they are: a vain attempt to represent reality as it isn't. An alien landing on this planet, having first watched our movies and TV, would quickly determine after a few weeks among us that our broadcast entertainment systems were a giant program to gaslight us. And that's exactly what it is. An attempt to literally rewrite reality to change humanity into the Left's vision of how things SHOULD be. THAT'S why we talk about this shite: it's gaslighting, 24/7. And you know it.

Ahh, poor you. It must suck to be so easily triggered by a reality that doesn't reflect your own. Feel free to educate the aliens on what's normal when they get here.

So you don't have a lick of data. Got it.

Ok

just expect our culture to be reflected accurately and not to be vilified.

Wow

So what magical threshold of interracial couple representation constitutes a "vilification" of American culture, exactly?

If you knew nothing of America and were only given commercials to watch to learn about the culture, you’d think black people are 80% of the population, all white women leave their white husbands for black men, white males are slobs and dunces to be ridiculed, and everyone else was gay.

This is not a reflection of real life or America.

This is sort of the opposite of truth. I suppose it depends on where they come to, but many foreigners who only know the US from media are surprised but how many people of color there are and how few blondes there are But more than anything, they're surprised by how fat everyone is.

Just one seems to do it every time. They would prefer us to be unseen and unheard.

I've been in an interracial relationship before, have zero beef with it, but even too much ice cream is a bad thing. I get irritated at the amount, not because I have an issue with it, more that it represents social engineering.

Oh, bullsqueeze. Most Americans are profoundly apathetic to you. Madison Avenue, on the other hand, is completely infatuated with you. Instead of parroting tired and lazy comments about being “triggered,” I’d just like somebody to explain why there’s such a ridiculous over representation.

Because the unusual is usually more interesting than the same-old-same-old.

What an odd analogy. Ice cream? It's just two people with different skin tones. It's a pretty superfluous difference when it comes to couple dynamics. Shouldn't matter any more than seeing a blonde with a brunette, or a brown eyed person with a green eyed one.

Ridiculous. If we have no problem with interracial relationships, then this is not a thing.

Except for the fragile white men on this board who melt about it every week.

Because white men and black women have the most buying power in their respective demographics. It's not rocket science, it's marketing 101.

Yeah, you're right, there's never been any racism directed at interracial couples.

Easy. Interracial relationships are on the rise. At an unprecedented rate. And that link is only cogent to marriage, and it's from like 4 years ago, btw--I just happened to have that one as a quick reference. The landscape now is even further tilted in the direction of that trend, of course. That affects the marketplace. Like Saint Alfonzo said, this is Marketing 101.

So, no, the representation isn't "ridiculous." It's to be expected. What's fascinating are those who find reason to take offense. Whether they be those who clutch pearls about "social engineering" (itt), or "woke" types who bitch and moan about being portrayed as making nice with "the oppressor."

It's the same difference at the end of the day. Both types of people sound like rubes.

I happen to have the Pew Research study the article mentions bookmarked.
