I met a native from Oklahoma tell me a joke a few year back about the Okies that left for California during the dust bowl. (joke) He said the IQ went up in both states when they left OK for CA.

I heard the Okies that left are seen as weak and didn't want to ride it out.

Changing subjects.

I think the same could be said for Texas. I hear Austin is very liberal from the outsiders moving in for the high tech. Austin, the Texas capital does not have the oilmen roughnecks, ranchers and cattlemen/cowboys like the rest of Texas has.
