Well the coastal Californians love to walk in human feces. I would not be surprised to see indoor bathrooms outlawed in coastal California and laws made to where everyone had to defecate on sidewalks or highways or be imprisoned. Dirty place.

To the OP’s point, the euries that came here drug some moochers with them too.
Then the PNW’s drug some more.

Friend,
I fear for your sanity as you make your periodic foray to this board. You are much too civil, urban and thoughtful for this place. I hope mother and your uncle are well.
However, I do somewhat agree with you on your characterization. In my extensive travels in the mid Atlantic, I have found the folks in NY, NJ, and PA to be extremely mild mannered and hospitable and tolerant to outsiders . Maybe more than the Southerner. I have also experienced good humor and conviviality amongst our fellow Americans on the West Coast. Whenever I go to Los Angeles or San Francisco I am struck by the overall sense of optimism of the regular folks and their openess to new things whether they be in thought or products or food. Their pizza though is not as good as the pizza of New York, New Jersey or Boston, though.
Friend, I do hope that you are keeping cool during this intemperate weather we are having this August.

you need to understand something child, the settling of the west was about the republican's packing the senate and that's exactly what they did. after the civil war the union added 16 states with 28 republican senators.
thnk about all those hardy people with those striving genes that settled wyoming, in 1890 wyoming territory had a population of 62,000 people and we made them a state with 2 senators.
today their population is less than 600k one congregational district and two senators.
the majority of growth in the west to the extent that there was any occurred post WW2. not the wagon train BS that you've seen in the movies.
you've got the western seaboard, arizona and navada, for all intent and purposes the rest of the west in is unsettled.

L.A. in particular grew out of migration from the Southern and Lower Mid West. You'll find a lot of people in that area who have ties to places in the South like LA, TN, KY,etc. Plus you had an explosion of population beginning in WWII years. A lot of Navy and Pacific theater vets returning decided that California was the place to settle down for any number of reasons. Aerospace was huge as were other defense related industries. It was also new and not as encumbered by older norms and prejudices from back east,. They weren't eliminated, but they were not a weight either. Plus the weather was great....and until the early 1990s homes and land were cheap. Good public schools and top notch universities made living in California an envious option.

When I lived there in the early 90s most everyone not multi generational native was from MW and NE cities. There maybe two from the areas you claim. The multi generational natives noted that the area changed with the influx of the urbanites from back east starting 1960s.

Reagan amnesty for illegals in 1986 began the process of flipping the state.

First of all, after living on the West Coast, I can assure you that there are plenty of strivers and people with ambition, including those with “Latin influence”, who work hard, create their own opportunities and contribute to their community. There are plenty of kooks out there, but that’s inevitable in such a large, dispersed population.
For your information, most people on the West Coast migrated there from the interior of the U.S., especially during The Depression and in the boom days after WW2…

By that time, yeah recent arrivals came from there, but during the 30's through the 50s LA types were coming from the South and it affected the political landscape in places like Orange County and San Diego. San Francisco historically was basically NE and NY types . I think Stanford was from Connecticut. Also a lot of Italians made their way to the area in the 20's and settled in the Northbeach area. Central Valley was heavily influenced by folks coming in from places like Oklahoma and Arkansas, etc

Re the "lazy gene"
As far as California being a "lazy" state. I'm not sure how a state with a population of 40m people can have an economy that as a stand alone nation would be the 4th largest in the world. That claim doesn't math. The innovation, production, and work ethic is noticeable in all economic and geographic areas. From the valley farming, to the silicon tech industry, shipping docs, entertainment, energy, finance, hospitality, aerospace, defense contractors, etc.
Add in the huge number of small businesses, often owned/operated by immigrant families, and you get those above mentioned economic results.
My question is how can a "lazy" state, populated with the very people and policies I'm told are ruining America (immigrants, left leaning policies, higher percentage of LGBT, non Christan or secular residents) accomplish this?

Its the big cities who run things. Get away and the countryside and small towns still are sane.
And once in power in large cities its hard to unseat them as they take all the tax money and use to stay in office. They give money to low IQ folks for votes and its a never ending cycle. When threatened in election they steal it.

The multi generational native still made fun of the Okies.
BTW, my wife has postcards from the 1910's sent by a friend from Los Angeles to an old USN shipmate of a great great uncle of hers, from New Orleans. Most are considered racist today, printed by "Coon Song" in Chicago.

The ones I can’t figure out are the Nordic people in Minnesota. They have the ancestral blood of Vikings. Now they roll over like dogs.

The idea of the state being “lazy” is laughable, and there’s no such thing as a “lazy gene”…
