Jesus didn't come to overthrow a government and leaders are picked by God to lead us. God can both pick someone like Hitler to lead allow him to kill 6 million people in a genocide and allow people to overthrow him. #godsarealgoodplanner

Thank you,

What you are experiencing on this board is christian nationalism which is unbiblical. No one is trying to suppress anyone's vote.

However to suggest it is a christian duty or make voting some sort of moral when voting itself is not a moral issue at all is misguided.

Sounds like something you’d read in the Quran

Romans 13

All of you must obey the government rulers. Everyone who rules was given the power to rule by God. And all those who rule now were given that power by God. 2 So anyone who is against the government is really against something God has commanded. Those who are against the government bring punishment on themselves.

I’d have to look into it, but I think that verse is speaking directly about the state of Israel. Throughout the Bible God blessed them but when they turned against him he allowed them to be conquered. So what he’s saying is that the Romans rule over the Jews in Israel because God has allowed it. This is the punishment God has bestowed upon Israel and as such they will accept Roman authority and will not rebel.

You submit to governance unless it becomes illegal, unethical, or immoral.

I’m not sure I agree with the Constitution being God’s ordained will any more than anything else in particular, but I do think you made a good point talking about Acts 4 where it says that God’s law supersedes the law of man.

We’re supposed to obey the laws in place, but if they are in direct defiance of the Bible, we dont have to honor those specific laws.

I’ve been doing a detailed Romans self-study the past few months. Going back through James Montgomery Boice’s four volume commentary adapted from his sermons. Highly recommend. Audio and ebook free on Hoopla.

I was just reading on this and related topics. Boice points us to Hebrews 12:6 as instructive here:
quote:

For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

Also that OP’s verse must be read in pari matria with all of the Scriptures where we are instructed, either implicitly or expressly, to disobey the earthly magistrate where obeying him or her would violate God’s laws and principles derived therefrom.
