It would be amazing if the coast guard and National guard were our two elite, prestigious forces, instead of the current arrangement.

What would they have done if that sub deep dived? Coasties are some tough gents. The ones that see the women and children dead in place from dehydration on makeshift boats escaping Havana, these guys, as well as divers-rescuers have my full respect.

Sigh, it's not a sub.

I've been out with those guys on a training exercise and they are serious as shite and total bad asses. Considering their funding, their special ops guys are pound for pound the equal or better of the Navy's seals.

And, it is the hardest academy to get in to. They take very few applicants.

Force structure limits them more than anything else.

I did drug interdiction ops with the CG in the 80's. I can confirm that thet do good work.

In part. My son looked at them really hard before going Army. They are just picky as hell. All the branches were chasing after him and the CG gave him the quick slowdown.

As others have said, they're only semi-subs. The reason the smugglers run boats like this is because they have a much smaller radar signature than a normal boat.

For anyone thinking about the military or service academies; I recommend the Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, or Air National Guard.

Question: Had that been a SEAL Team operation, how many different books "written" by Team members would appear within five years? Two or three?
