Luckily we don't treat our fainted service men like the Brits use to.

You would think servicemen doing presidential stuff would know not to lock the knees. Guess they don't realize it at the time till they hit the ground
To be an honor guard in any branch of the military is a great achievement and it’s taken very seriously by them. You have to be physically fit, mentally strong and disciplined. The majority of the honor guards when I served in the Army were special forces. The young man could’ve been sick but wanted to fulfill his duty and honor for the former president. Just guessing on that.

The fact no one responded immediately is so bizarre.
In that scenario on honor guard for a former president, the dumbass who locked his knees and passed out isn't anyone's job. You learn that from basic forward.

That's fine. I feel like some support staff should have moved in with a little more urgency, but I could be wrong.

Locking your knees can lead to fainting because it prevents your leg muscles from contracting, which normally helps pump blood back up to the heart, causing blood to pool in your legs and reducing the blood flow to your brain, potentially causing you to pass out.
Thank you.

That guy fell almost as fast as Carter’s economy.

TIL about knocking knees.

correct. If you have ever been in the Military, they teach you not to lock your knees when standing at attention. When people do, they pass out.

Is this an actual thing?
If so, can someone explain why?
Cuts off circulation. Happens about every ceremony - big ceremonies will have a detail of soldiers to go drag the weak hearted to a medic tent after they fall.
I was in the battalion color guard when I was a joe. Our SNCOs made it abundantly clear what would happen to us if any of us ever let that happen to us.

If you help them too fast it makes others think it's acceptable. Better to let them lay in shame for a bit.

I don’t understand why none of the other military members didn’t immediately raise the fainting marines legs above his head.

Just drugged him off like he was KIA.

My husband served in the Old Guard and that guy is done. They practice for 6 months before they are even allowed to serve. He 100 percent should have known better ( if he locked his knees). I know all the army guys are infantry, Rangers not special forces ( green berets).

"Thanks for your time on honor guard. Short notice tasking to Gitmo just came in - pack your duffels."

Probably thought Jimmy was going to try to airlift him into Tehran from the grave.

Nope he simply fainted. Any rushing around detracts from the pomp of the ceremony and since it is a former president's funeral no one is going to do that.

I've seen a lot of Sham Artists pull a lot of nonsense to get out of guard duty, but this guy takes the cake.

I’ve heard that before, I get anxiety in front of a large group but I never felt that way during my wedding.

That crayon casserole caught up to him.

Locked his knees. fricking rookie. Was on a Parade field in Ft. Rucker Alabama during a change of command ceremony in formation so I am behind a kid in our company who was 6'6 about a solid 260. He started to wobble and the big man started going down I had to catch him and then slide to the front without anyone noticing. Trick is not to lock your knees and slight movements.
