I am surprised they didn't wheel in a casket for Biden.

We had soldiers stand behind formation for large change of command ceremonies to haul out guys that locked their knees. Nobody in formation should move if that happens.

Spent last two years at Parris Island…he locked his knees. Saw it every graduation in summer, occasionally in winter too. None of the others broke bearing. Supernumerary pulled him off. Hate it for that young Marine.

You would think servicemen doing presidential stuff would know not to lock the knees. Guess they don't realize it at the time till they hit the ground

Guy broke his nose taking the big dive in formation in San Antonio in the summer.

Formations had ambulances and med tech positioned for just such occasions.

constricted blood flow; particularly during a stressful situation (aka president funeral, best man at a wedding when you're not used to being on stage in front of a bunch of people watching you)

it happens when you're trying to stand tall and still and respectful

by the time you realize you're about to faint its too late, you're already falling. boom, out like a light.

Shouldn't these guys know better? Seems with all their training and what they do, they should know that...

Is this an actual thing?

Yes.

can someone explain why?

Locking your knees can lead to fainting because it prevents your leg muscles from contracting, which normally helps pump blood back up to the heart, causing blood to pool in your legs and reducing the blood flow to your brain, potentially causing you to pass out.
