So, what would happen if I stopped paying income tax?

I know the short answer, Jail.
But how long could I get away with before I'd have to start paying it back?
I just wonder if I could make enough investing that same money to offset the penalties.

You wouldn't go to jail. They'd seize your assets and take part or all of your paychecks every month.
Government charges 18% interest compounded daily along with penalties. Your not going to win that battle.

Sell everything you own (house, car, stocks, etc) and liquidate your accounts then find some way to leave the country without having to use your passport. Get a new ID and drop your cash into a bank account in the Bahamas or Cypress then move to some country where the cost of living is low and they don't look too closely at some foreigner paying cash for everything.
If you can't do that, pay your taxes.

Depends on how long it takes them to figure it out.
For one thing, they have data sharing with states to determine who is either not filing with one or the other OR who is under-filing with one or the other.
For another, they will estimate a bill for you if they feel you should have filed but didn’t. Some states like California are notorious for generating these bills and demanding you pay taxes even when you show proof you didn’t set foot in the state that year.

Americans can’t organize well enough to do it…If you could, they couldn’t do Jack shite about it…Lots of things could be done but most of America is too fricking stupid. Long as Jax travel ball isn’t affected, they duck their head in the sand til it’s too late.

filing a return is law,paying federal income tax is not,anyway at this time time the IRS is being dismantled.Irs is the collection agency for the vatican

Thanks to withholding, the government isn’t too worried and they would seize everything you own and throw you in jail. Taxpayer revolts are feared, but not that much.
