It’s also a pain in the arse. I enlisted two kids that weren’t citizens. Had to get the birth certificate translated, then approved, then a bunch of other hoops. And they were high school grads.
Most don’t understand how restrictive the military is, yet they bitch about how they think it’s full of trannies. Which all mental health goes and stalls at BUMED.

Seal the border. End the concept of "jus solis", where you attain citizenship simply by birthing an illegal alien on US soil.
After that, issue a National ID Card. This National ID Card would be checked against a federal database and you must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident or legal immigrant to:

-purchase a home

Deny them benefits so they'll self-deport, then deny federal aid to states who give them benefits so perhaps they, too, will self-deport.

Cut off all government assistance. Change to a Fair tax so the illegals pay taxes but get no benefits. Deport any of them that are arrested .

Nothing, nothing at all.
Disagree
* Shut down the border and stop the bleeding (will be hard, take time and money, but other items will be tougher. This requires a wall.
* Promise easy / assisted egress from the country for those that want to leave (easy to implement).
* Require registration of all illegals. (easy to implement)
* Prevent access to social programs, govt welfare, and healthcare for illegals (This will be the toughest to accomplish because of the political headwinds)
* Allow for public education of registered illegals (easy)
* Allow legal employment of registered illegals (easy)
* Allow a path to citizenship for illegals who are here. Requirements are 10 years (minimum) from registration of illegal status and proof of the filing of Federal Tax Return. (easy)
* Immediate exportation upon conviction of a felony for registered illegals. (can be done)
* Immediate exportation upon apprehension of non registered illegal. (can be done)
This accomplishes the following:
* Stop the inflow of illegals
* Bring illegals out of the darkness and encourages registrations.
* Gives quality employment options for illegals, with associated tax collection.
* Gives a path to becoming American citizen
* Punishes illegals that do not register
* Limits the cost of illegals
Obviously, you will need a pretty good majority in Congress in order to get this done. I don't now if the left will even play ball. You might need a super majority in both houses.
But, a solution with a path to citizenship on one side and a closing of the border on the other with controls that limit the cost of illegals is a good solution.

I went through bootcamp with a dude from Ghana who was a far better asset to our Navy than most Americans who were in our division. I'd rather have men like that than these worthless, America hating Marxists growing up now.

Nothing but we can make it harder for them to get here and wouldn’t even cost as much as we’ve spent in Ukraine, a country we don’t share a border with.
Mexico isn’t even one of the poorer countries, they are like in the middle. There is no reason for them to be allowed to come here.
For example Ukraines GNI is lower than Mexico. So Ukraine is considered poorer than Mexico by the world bank.
