Pay your bills, but also don't order so much.
The Democrats want appetizers, a huge meal, some expensive wine, dessert, and coffee afterwards. Republicans are trying to cut out the dessert and Dems are freaking out about it.

DC needs to be put on a budget, like most of the Citizens here ! STOP the money laundering in Ukraine, STOP giving illegal aliens crossing the border thousands of dollars, and cut the Federal Agencies back to vital personnel only ! Every Federal Agency we have, which is WAY too many, could cut their personnel by half and still be efficient. Cut the free handouts and force people able to work to do so.
Ron? Is that you?

I agree. It's not just the dessert though. We need to be ordering a salad not the appetizer, filet, tons of sides, and then yes the dessert too.
DeSantis appears to be for this. Trump talked the talk going into his presidency but the debt kept going up year over year under him.

He was good on tax cuts, trade, immigration, and keeping us out of wars. Not so much when it came to spending.

MAGA will get blamed.....we get blamed for everything!
Posted on 5/25/23 at 7:15 pm to oldskule
Schmuck Schumer blamed the "MAGA Supreme Court" for the 9-0 ruling against the EPA earlier today.

That’s a poll. Wait until a week or so after the histrionics on social media and regular media. They will all blame Rs

What if less-than-gruntled recipients of Medicare, Social Security and veterans' benefits take to the streets, following just one missed scheduled payment after default?
McCarthy and House Republicans' illy-timed quixotism will smell to high heaven publicly, and any Republican presidential candidate can kiss 2024 goodbye.

We need a balanced budget amendment to constitution that requires a balanced budget and states taxes can never top 40% and limits spending to a certain percentage of GDP except during wartime. And such wartime must be a declared war by Congress not a military action ordered by the President

What are your thoughts on the 14th amendment argument posed by Biden? Does it require him to ensure the legitimacy of public debts? Is invoking the 14th risking consideration of the argument that Biden could be impeached if the US defaults on its debt obligations? Laurence Tribe's argument seems to leave that door open.
quote:
Professor and constitutional scholar Laurence Tribe argues that it is not a matter of Presidential power but Presidential duty—to enforce already legislated laws and payments—that obligates the President, when confronting two incompatible mandates (the 14th amendment versus the debt ceiling created by Second Liberty Bond Act of 1917), to choose that which is not only in keeping with his Constitutional duty to execute laws Congress has passed that have created debt but also in mind of the pragmatic consequences to the security and well-being of the United States.

Personally, I blame all of those assholes. Both parties ran up this debt and spent beyond their means. It was just as wrong to raise the debt limit when Trump was in office as it is now.

The federal government is a deadbeat by its nature. It produces nothing, generates revenue by taking it from those who do produce, and always, always, always spends more of your money than they can take from you at any given time. Then it pays its excess bills by taking out loans in perpetuity, and then more loans to pay that debt. At some point soon the interest on loans will exceed tax revenue. It already exceeds what we spend on defense.
there are way way way too many logical paths there.
Your average Democrat voter can only follow logic like - "promise me everything I want and make someone else pay for it" and then "I will vote for you."
If you go beyond that, you are - by definition (their definition)- attacking democraty
