ab-so-fricking-lutely

i have been defending the "30+ ACT" claims on the OT for years. people don't understand the limited sample of people who post on certain boards ALONG WITH selective responses

i think 19 is closer to like 60-65%

but there still is a value to name recognition when applying (assuming you did well at that school of course).

If you're from Louisiana you save some money and go to LSUHSC in NOLA for med school. LSU undergrad suffices for that.

I don't even bother posting what I made. The handle 'HempHead' prevents most posters from taking me seriously.

As a (mostly) Scot, I am saddened that the oppression endured by my ancestors does not qualify me for some kind of preferential treament.

I don't really remember what mine was...I think it was a 23 or 24...but that was 30 plus years ago.

I figured that was average back then.

I scored a 33, but my GPA was a 3.1

I should have done better on both counts, but I was (and still am) a rather unmotivated individual when it comes to academics. I was more concerned with how stoned I could get and how much money I could make as a bookie.

True. But I chose my school partly based on looking at their prior years match list. I wanted to go somewhere where graduates matched all throughout the country bc I wasn't sure at that time where I wanted to live. LSUHSC is more regional matching. But if you want to stay in LA/south east, you're right.

Baby girl scored a 33 in 10th grade and came back with a 35 on the February test. I think the national average is 20.7.

She's pretty involved at a good school, and has a perfect GPA with every AP class she can take. Her counselor feels like being a female from Mississippi is diverse enough to get in. She said if she was a white male from Connecticut, it might not be cut and dry.

There was a story about a kid that gained admissions to all eight Ivies a couple weeks ago. His SAT was equal to a 32 ACT and he was 13th in his class.

You're probably right about that. I got mail from a lot of schools and I assumed it was because of that. The point still stands that receiving mail from a school is usually a marketing ploy to lower acceptance rates.

i had a 31 but i test like shite on reading comp exams. either i have a mental block or i see the world differently than test authors

i crushed pretty much everything else. we had a "30 club" and once i got there (and had resigned myself to going to LSu), no reason to take it again

i had over a 4.0 in gifted-level classwork, though.

I remember being invited to attend Oxford and Cambridge for a summer my junior year....for a paltry $5,000!

That's awesome, congrats to your daughter

Just make sure she kills the PSAT and gets National Merit, colleges really really care about that nowadays. And MS National Merit cutoff has got to be really low compared to other states (no offense, so is LAs ) so your daughter shouldn't have that much trouble.

I literally never completed one page of homework for the entirety of my high school career.

For a while, I regretted not trying to do better, but I am doing well now, so now I'm glad that I spent my time rather frivolously. Teenagers shouldn't be workaholics.
