Just out of curiosity, would the actions of MLB players be sympathized if they protested no tobacco rules by dipping during the games? Seems that the accepted answer then was “we write your checks, if you don’t like it, sit in the stands.” Or are the NFL players actions sympathized solely because it’s a race issue?

Yeah, no. To think that the people keeping this alive are the non-kneelers just means you don't read anything on the internet besides tigerdroppings

If Trump never called NFL players that protest sons of bitches it never would’ve come to this. Kap was out of the league and the protest were slowing dying but Trump had to bring the conversation back up. Eventually it was gonna end and we would find something else to talk about. Dolphins ownership are idiots for bringing the debate back.

The owners could have seen if it died out but they brought a flamethrower to it again when they changed the rule with no player, and questionable owner, involvement.

So you should be allowed to show up at work and protest freely, about things that have zero to do with work, on company time, with an audience, and it be fine?

Yes, you frickin twat, you should! My jimmies are starting to get rustled.

You're an idiot. The First protects you from government trampling your speech. A private institution can't jail you for speech, but they can fine you for speech on their time.

I do find it funny how many people remember the 1A in an instance like this, but whenever an employee is fired for criticizing gays or something like that, those same folks are up in arms about the 1A.

The kneeles are akin to a toddler - the more you draw the line in the sand an assert your authority, the more the push against that line. If you find yourself as a parent in an argument with your toddler, you're definitely to blame for getting in that situation.

Lots of different ways to skin a cat. Telling them you can't do it or else has proven to be a bad one over the last two years.

They are employees. They have a boss who writes them a check in exchange for their labor. If you can’t comprehend that an employee doesn’t have a right to protest while in uniform on the job then anyone who has ever attempted to educated you has failed you.

The has nothing to do with feelings. This may shock you, but alienating half of your current and potential customer base isn’t a good business strategy.

And the NFL continues to stoke that fire which is confusing. If anything, the NFL would want this to go away. The kneeling, reaction, lost revenue, papa john... even the recent papa john stuff reflects on NFL by recency bias.

That said, the players are unionized. It's not Dolphins players on an island. But the NFLPA has been a pushover and their resolve is very much in doubt. I still don't understand the owner benefit of re-shining the spotlight again. IMO it's best interest of owners to let this fade this. Do they really want to re-ignite that fire and test the NFLPA?

I'm torn on this.

Everyone has the right to protest whatever they want. Nothing nor anyone should stand in the way of that.

However, when you work for an employer at a private business you work under their rules and at their discretion. You have the right to protest or champion whatever you want, but they also have the right to disagree with you and take action within their own company.

Up to 4 games, plus fines.
1st amendment applies to government repercussions.

If you walk up to a huge biker and call him a figgot, and he whips your arse. . .that isn't a 1st amendment violation.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from all consequences of speech

They are just employees. There are very few that aren’t easily replaced. Also I don’t have a job I have a career where there aren’t more people than jobs so good job showing that you think pro athletes are the most exclusive job in the world.
