Three U.S. local governments plan to sign deals this week to become the first to adopt a location tracking app aimed at preventing new outbreaks of the novel coronavirus, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-led project said Thursday.
An additional 17 state and municipal governments are considering introducing the app in their communities as soon as in the next two weeks, said Ramesh Raskar, an associate professor at MIT, in an email exchange.
“These span all over the country, and include some of the largest U.S. cities to more remote vacation communities looking to protect themselves,” he said.
Raskar declined to specify the states, counties or cities nearing agreements but said they were expected to advocate for residents to voluntarily download the app, known as Private Kit.

Governments worldwide are evaluating Private Kit or similar technologies meant to aid the otherwise labor-intensive process of contact tracing, in which health officials must ask recent contacts of a person who has tested positive for the virus to self-quarantine or get tested.
Effective contact tracing will need to be in place before widely lifting stay-at-home orders that have crippled the global economy, health experts have said. European countries have partnered on the Pan-European Privacy Preserving Proximity Tracing initiative, following the successful use of app-based systems in some Asian countries.

No one who's been paying attention will be surprised this is coming, but here it is. These are frightening times for all freedom loving people.

Depends how it’s used. Health officials already do contact tracing. Is this to help them? Or used to notify the public of cases in their area?
Two really big differences there. The article doesn’t say.

- Google, Apple, Facebook, etc.
"We promise we aren't using technology to track and monitor our citizens' activities."
- US government
Oh yea, real good history in this area.

I get the general premise behind this app but I’ll withhold judgement until more info comes out.

does this require the person being tracked have the app?
if so...there's a simple solution

Meh...my state has been doing contact tracing for years. It's a no biggie. It actually helps prevent spread of diseases.

Going to be fun if these bracelets reveal a strong socioeconomic pattern.

I would think that many people who are out of work would be excited for this in order to get back to work

Let these socialists reveal themselves. Many leftists are slow when they are their freedoms restricted they'll see the distinction between what they've supported and the Patriots.

Baby steps.
Like the unsuspecting hungry crab on the turkey neck string, until the kid on the jettie rocks swoops behind with the net.
They're not saying let me take you home and drop your panties, they're slowly seducing, they're just now buying you a drink at the bar..with Barry White playing in the backdrop.
They're saving rawdog poundtown for a day in your micro-chipped & digital currency grandkid's Big Brother future.
