Was flipping around the tube and saw a show called TrueSouth, which described itself as focusing on food in the SEC, on SEC Network. Setting was in Jackson MS. Turns out food was not much of a focus; they didn’t highlight a single dish. Anyway, after watching the show...

Why didn’t the state legislature give Jackson it’s money to run the water system? Is it really because of racism?

That’s what the show said.

Mississippi legislature kept the money from Jackson because the city is 80% black.

They even interviewed Dr. Ebony Lumumba, who is a professor at Jackson State and the mayor’s wife, and a media reporter to back it up with checked facts.

It was because of gross mismanagement by the elected officials in Jackassistan.

Hence why the legislature and governors are the problem.

city water systems are supposed to be (if they are run correctly) self-supporting entities. Some even are even run so efficiently that they are money makers for their cities. Cities do not get budget money from the state for water system regular maintenance. They can apply for grants for improvements, but there is not a line item in any state budget to provide for regular maintenance of city water systems in a state. The "racism" claim is nothing but attention whoring by the chief elected official of the city of Jackson, to deflect from the 40 years of mis-management and corruption (giving away water for votes) in the city of Jackson. Jackson got a HUGE settlement of $90 MM from Siemens for the faulty water meters, and that money evaporated into thin air. Lamumba is a total clown. Which means he will probably succeed Bennie Thompson and be the next US Representative from that district.

The state does not operate the sewer and water system in Jackson nor do they collect the revenue.

The city has a friggin monopoly and can’t run it.

I've watched most episodes of TrueSouth, but haven't seen this one yet. It doesn't so much focus on food as it does specific restaurants and what make those restaurants important to the community. Watching the New Orleans episode was very emotional for me because it had a lot to do with Katrina and the importance of those restaurants coming back. The creator and star are Wright Thompson and John T. Edge.

Edge graduated from Georgia and Ole Miss, and lives in Oxford. He is a co-founder of the Southern Foodways Alliance, that if I remember correctly was forced out for being white. He's obviously liberal.

Thompson's father was an ardent Democrat who was the Mississippi finance chairman for the 1984 John Glenn presidential campaign. He later supported Michael Dukakis and Bill Clinton in their campaigns against George Herbert Walker Bush.

Saw Edge as a guest on the SEC pregame show in Oxford last weekend and had to turn the channel. He literally checks every pretentious, soft, mealy stereotype of some of our fans.

Is New Orleans' S&WB a state entity? Much the same thing. When NO runs out of clean water, it won't be Louisiana's fault, buy we'll all be on the hook for it.

Completely agree

He had his legs crossed like a woman and he acts like he’s so much better than everyone
