This is my first disagreement with Trump's foreign policy - and admittedly there may be a lot more to this than the title suggests.

BUT - we have been their military arm for decades now - at great expense. I think it may be time for them to provide their own defense, and just be their big-brother ally - seems to work well for Israel.

Why is Trump opposing this idea>???

cause he thought they'd cut us a huge check before they'd have a military. huge check means we get paid and still control them. this pushes Europe further down the path of non US reliance which historically has been a very bloody path for them

I don’t even think we should commit to this. As long as they know we’ll come running to the rescue every time there’s trouble they won’t commit to building a real military. If we cut them off completely we can sit back and laugh as they have their little arms race and are forced to cut back on all their silly social programs that only exist because we’ve provided their defense and security for the past 3 generations.

They should totally go for it......our military should be home by Christmas. Let them grow some nuts and protect themself, it might help them realize how much the big meanie America has done for them.

Frick them. Stop finding these p****ys.

I would assume it’s because the Eastern Europeans have said a European army would be a way to force them to follow what Germany orders.

Other than that I don’t care.

Quite a bit, actually. Sort of one of my hobbies.

But current politics is my passion now. I merely point out that I disagree with Trump's reaction to Macrone's statement. I figure Macrone was just being bombastic with his inclusion of USA in his statement.

But generally what is the objection to a Europe Defense Alliance with its own cohesive military - where we could join with them in a NATO like fashion, but with them footing the entire bill for their own forces?

Seems worthy of discussion to me.

I do believe we need to be intimately involved with NATO, or whatever follows it if this Europe military eventuates. We have historically had common interests with the European people, however they are now drifting away from anything like they have historically been. Becoming more socialist all the time.

IF they go further down that socialist path, I definitely think we should let them fund their own defense.

A more logical, and short term objective would be for them to join the US in stopping chinese "trade" practices. As long as the world continues to feed the beast, they will continue to ramp up their military.

I watch their aggression in the south China sea, the incessant stealing of IP (including military tech), and when the US objects, the EU runs and hides.

War is on the horizon and its being funded with our own money.

But heh, the holidays are upon us and some Americans prefer cheap holiday decorations, who am I to judge.

And the media is complicit, remember Hitler was Time magazines man of the year....

I believe trump was more offended by them lumping is in with China and Russia as threats. That is some us leftist level bullshite and highly offensive given what we have done for them. I knew Europe is run by morons, just not that intense a flavor of stupidity.

Trump's remarks were in relation to what Macron said. Macron said Europe needs a military to counter the U.S., Russia and China. Macron threw us in there with Russia and China.

I don't think Trump has any problem in principle with Europe putting more focus into their own defense.

Yeah - that is what I think also - It is the sort of statement that Trump would make so he should have just ignored it.

IF however, the actual implementation were to slant that way, then that would be a HUGE problem.

It’s an idle threat. They can’t spend 2% for a suplimental Army in NATO. They can’t pay for a real army and all their socialist crap as well.

The threat of EU Army was a swipe at the US and Trump

Which is why I want them to try it.

And if they fail, the price of our bailing them out will be much higher.

And you're curious why we should be wary of European Countries acting polite while building an army?

Well, it's been 70 years. I say that's long enough

We need to stop funding their defense.

The United States is the only country ready for WWIII. It’s time the rest of the world catch up. Or not, I don’t care, but as far as I’m concerned the Europeans do not deserve our protection.

So, you think the Belgians and the Dutch will get along? Hell, I've been reading fascinating accounts of WWII Axis prisoners kept in US camps for the duration. The Germans didn't even get along with the Germans. We had to identify the upper class and lower class and keep them separated.

Germany and Belgium are pretty much rearming most of Europe with small arms
