I got a nice surprise in the mail last week saying my health insurance monthly premium is going from $1375/month to $2001/month beginning in January.

How long does it take for the US to become a single payer system?

I ask this bc I have 0 faith that any of Trump’s repeal/replace policies will get passed thanks to the obstructionism in Washington today.

I don’t understand why anyone in their right mind would pay this. Even if you have money to literally flush down the toilet, why would you throw away this kind of money every month? Stick it in the bank for medical emergencies, but don’t give it to some company who claims they are insuring you, because they most certainly are not. An insurance premium should not rival a house payment every month

What blows my mind is how liberals think that insurance companies are so evil and only are motivated by profits (which may or may not be true) yet they think government officials are so benevolent and only want to help “the people.”

Answer me this: Do you really believe that single payer will cover every single illness, medication, surgery that a person may require to live a happy and productive life? The answer is clearly “no.”

With that being said why is that inherently good vs an insurance company being inherently bad?

I’d love to know the answer.

I’ll answer for him. Because with a single payer system, suckers like you who can afford to pay 2 grand a month for insurance will be stuck footing the bill for his “free” gubment insurance.

The individual mandate says I have to. Government coercion takes away my free will to decide on keeping the policy or not - they tell me I have to have the policy (or at least something in place).

Tell me what would happen if I choose to cancel my plan and not pay the fine of not having health insurance.

The republicans have the house, Senate and presidency and vowed to repeal obamacare.

Why didn't they want to make your insurance lower?

If you voted Republican then you own it.

You do know the fine is capped right? The fine comes out of your tax refund or is considered part of what you owe in taxes. Last year Trump through executive order instructed the IRS not to enforce the fine. The repeal of the individual mandate is also in the current tax package. So you really have a choice, drop 25k on insurance premiums plus whatever you deductible is before you are actually covered, or tell the insurance company to keep their crap policy and instead put the premium in the bank for emergencies.

Trump has been the president for what 11 months. I guess that day one repeal of ACA is only 11 months late.

Last week on my drive to visit relatives for the turkey, Rush was referencing a NYT story on VA and NC exchanges only offering $30k-$39k/year HEALTHY (meaning no preexisting conditions) family of 4 (typical 2 parent 2 kid household) policies. No healthy family of 4 is going to spend that much on healthcare in a year outside of catastrophic injury/illness. Making it more fiscally sound to do without coverage at all. Especially when the above mentioned policies require a $3k deductible and then have a cap on benefits paid too.

Boom! Insurance is THE problem.

People are paying for nothing but other peoples livelihoods when they pay for insurance. $30k per person on the exchange so agents, secretaries, claims reps, execs, etc., can live a nice middle to upper income life.

Now as far as getting govt. even more deeply involved: "Welcome to DMV/Minor Emergency Clinic, please take and number and have a seat. Average wait time: 20 hours. Bleeding or other bodily fluid leaks are strictly prohibited and fines will be assessed."

He could literally have over 30 grand in the bank in cash for emergencies if he had dumped the policy last year and put his premiums in the bank. With the way the rates keep increasing, he could have one hell of a medical emergency fund in a few years.

I'm not paying for ObamaCare. There's just no way. Medical care in the US is a joke. Quality going down and costs going up. I'm not feeding that. No way.

These fukkers in Congress better get that off the books immediately. Not sustainable, they lied to get it through, they didn't even read the damn thing. It's not acceptable.

Trump must find a way to dismantle it and start removing govt from healthcare.

I'm still waiting on being able to keep my plan. And my doctor. And shite, still waiting on my 2500 savings a year. Guess that's just... What? Half a decade late?
