Should the Secret Service stop protection?

I keep seeing the justification that the government employees not getting paid are nonessential. Should protection for government officials be removed then? Or should they just keep working for free?

Congress isn't working for free.
Trump is only getting $1 a year, that's practically free. He's closer to the furloughed workers in terms of government pay than Congress is.

I'm not confused. You misinterpreted the OP. The justification I keep seeing is we don't need the employees not getting paid now. We can do without them. There are LOTS of people working without pay.
