Should McConnell let Single Payer go to a vote?

Bernie pushing single payer- has cosponsors this time
Normally a Senate Leader would shut this noise down and not let it come up for a vote.
But maybe we want this to come to vote to get Dems (and Republicans) on record.

Didn't they already do this during the skinny repeal bullshite?

It would be no different than the nearly 100 Obamacare repeal bills that went up for a vote when they never had a chance of passing. It's entirely symbolic.

Leaders in congress should let most bills come to a vote rather than distorting democracy to whatever petty lobbies they have at the time.
This includes both left and right.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

He does like healthcare bills that go to vote and fail.

Yeah Congress does a lot of whack-a-doo stuff. It's odd, because Louisiana is so backwards in a lot of ways, but it's legislative process seems better to me:
1. Any bill that passes out of committee gets scheduled for a vote. The author can decided not to move the bill and that's it.
2. Bills have to focus on a single item- no Omnibus bills
3. Amendments have to be germane to the original bill
Not perfect by any means but seems like a better process to me. I suspect a lot of legislatures run like this.

Congress actually votes on things?
Who knew.

They should look at the polling numbers for single payer. A comfortable majority of Americans are against it.

Nah because that won't come close to passing and so we wouldn't really get an accurate count.
You only get a true accurate count if a bill is literally 1 vote away (repeal of Obamacare).

Absolutely. Get every one of those Socialists on record.
Undoubtedly, there would be a significant number of 'Not Voting' recorded.

Yes

The Senate resoundingly rejected a Republican effort to get Democrats on the record regarding their support — or lack thereof — for a single-payer healthcare system.
Senators voted 0-57 on the amendment from GOP Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) to implement a government-funded healthcare system.
Democratic Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Jon Tester (Mont.) and Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.) and Independent Sen. Angus King (Maine) joined all Republicans in voting “no,” while 43 Democrats voted “present.”
It had 57 votes against it.

Personally, I think that it should be policy that anything that can get 25% of the votes in either chamber has to be brought to the full floor for a vote.
That shite would end a whole lot of grandstanding on both sides.
