Just to provide some historical precedent on assassination attempts for the mentally challenged here. Squeaky Fromme attempted to assassinate Gerald Ford. She pointed a gun at him with no bullet in the chamber and was stopped. She was sentenced to life in prison. According to you that wouldn’t count.
