The rounds are held by a groove in the clip. You open the bolt of the rifle, insert the clip, and push the rounds down through the bolt into the magazine below. Then remove clip.
Just similar M1 Garand except the M1 uses a bloc clip. I guess a better example is a Russian SKS.
