Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) opposed any reform, saying he has heard from police groups across the country who said civil-asset forfeiture is an important law enforcement tool. Ending the sharing of seized cash with local departments “would be a huge detriment to law enforcement,” Sessions said.
Hopefully Trump will direct him to enforce a different POV. In the meantime, Sessions had better shore up his position. Paul et all will crucify him otherwise, justifiably.

i don't think so

i was talking Sessions yesterday or the day before and i was saying the GOP has a major opportunity to enact real change and make potential demographic gains, but choosing people like Sessions is the opposite of any of that

Sessions is just such a stupid pick on every level. potential racism allegations from his past? check. draconian, authoritarian AG? check

The AG, and all appointments, follows the lead of the president. Hopefully Trump will have differing opinions on this topic.

why would Trump pick a guy with these red flags only to tell him not to follow up?

and the whole support of Trump in spite of his lack of experience was that he was going to be hands off and pick the right people to do the job

I'm certain it does.

In fact, everything that law enforcement does hits minorities at a disproportionate rate.

That's why it needs to be addressed in a vacuum.

I actually really appreciate Jeff Sessions, because he's proven that sometimes the left and the right on this board can come together and agree that Jeff Sessions is a huge prick.

All you recreational and medical marijuana baws better watch out.

Note to self: Sessions doesn't favor the Rule of Law.

Uh, CF is the Rule of Law right now.

That's why it needs to be gutted.

CF does have a place in law enforcement, but in a very, VERY VERY limited set of circumstances.

I don't think that means Trump will 100 percent agree with every appointment and turn a blind eye to the things he disagrees with. Many of these appointments have known views that are in disagreement with Trumps.

Trump has shown that he has his own vision, and hopefully he will take his own path.

It's possible Sessions is the sacrificial pick although I would be surprised it TRUMP! started it out like that.

But I suck at 7th level Chessckers.

Havent read about it and didnt see it, but Paul is an IDIOT of the highest degree if he said this.

He's not an idiot. He's magnitudes smarter than you, me, and 99.9% of the people on this board.

You can look at a simple set of statistics and see where what he is saying is absolutely true.

Just because you get triggered when someone mentions that there are racial problems in the country doesn't mean they don't exist.

Aren't these rules something that congress could easily change? Is this like complaining when police enforce a law instead of complaining that your legislature hasn't changed the laws?

That would only be true if they are committing crimes at a disproportionate rate.

yes

but why would you think they would change if this is the type of person Trump wants running the DOJ?

I didn't say it wasn't true. Of course it is true.

But Paul dilates the calamity of CF by saying it hits minorities harder. It's stupid.

Reminds me of Limbaugh's old saying about the NYTimes headline - "Asteroid to impact Earth tomorrow, Women and Children hardest hit".

You posted an article from April 2015. The outrage that posters are having right now is ridiculous. We have no idea what Sessions will do or advocate. He could very well change his opinions on CF.

Exactly.

Take $5k out of your bank and drive across country with it for no reason other than to pay cash along your way.

Hope you don't get pulled over.

when you get into the VAST power that fedgov has over banking and shite, it gets worse

structuring, for example, makes running a small business a huge risk to have your bank accounts seized and stolen
