This is the biggest mistake our otherwise infallible Founding Fathers made other than not clarifying the Second Amendment.

There are many prosperous nations with democratic values that have a state religion. While I agree that their should be no American Church or that a particular denomination should be adopted, I think we would have been better if Christianity in general (encompassing Roman Catholicism and Protestantism) was the national faith.

Therefore it’s values would be cemented as our values.

American citizens would not be required to practice Christianity, but they would be expected to respect it.

This is what non-Muslims have to do in Muslim countries.

They didn’t even believe in separation of church and state. They just wanted the state to stay out of the church.

Separation of Church and State is not in the Constitution.

We should definitely model ourselves off of them. Good thinking.

What kind of authoritarian nightmare are you describing here?

"Citizen, you are charged with disrespecting the Christian faith. How do you plead?"

Here it is....

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I mean, it is easy for me to understand in my redneck vernacular, however, some of the rocket surgeons in here can't seem the comprehend "shall not be infringed."

That particular phrase comes from a Supreme Court decision not the Constitution.

Plenty of countries have national religions on the books that are pretty much disregarded in government and social life

I only agree w this bc all churches and relgions in this country need to pay taxes. They are NOT absorbing the cost of the impoverished like the lack of taxing them was intended.
