Go ahead and put me down for the law should be revised to permit reduced sentencing for the less culpable.
Another point for the good guys!

Tyrannical bootlickers on this board are exactly the kind of twats the founders had in mind while drafting the 8th amendment.
Putting away people for life for breaking into a car. JFC you people are retarded.

Ok, I'm in the minority. One kid did not run or resist arrest. His friend ran, that's a separate crime. While running , HE killed two people, not the kid who gave himself up. I think it's ridiculous that the kid who didn't commit the crime of fleeing from the police should be charged with the guy who did.
Fair enough. Just recognize your issue is with the law as written, not the adherence to the law.
As best as I can tell, it seems like the criminal justice officials adhered to the law. Sadik Baxter did not.

I think most in this discussion believe they are on team good guy.
This is an exercise in proper balance.
Law is necessary for civilization. Look at the epidemic of smash and grab and shitting on the streets for evidence of this truth.
One the other hand these tools (conspiracy laws in this case) in the hands of a police state can be used to kill freedom.

Your beef is with the politicians who wrote the laws that mandated law enforcement officials (to include judges and juries) to follow the law.
What you have on this forum is people whose default setting is to respect the law. Most are not accustomed to questioning the effectiveness or fairness of laws.

I'm okay with this.
It's kind of like when a drunk driver kills someone and his passenger is also drunk.
He doesn't get a pass.
One kid decides to run one kid decides to stay in hopes of diluting police effectiveness.
frick em both.

Start with the authors of these laws and those who voted for passage of these laws.
Keep in mind our current President is one of the founding fathers of mandatory minimums.

Aka the people from whom much of the bill of rights was written to protect us.

I would guarantee these people respect some laws quite well and others not so much. Keyboard commandos that would not have nearly the gusto to impose such draconian sentences if they were forced to look the families and the accused in the eye while banging the gavel.

I get that but they aren’t being charged with murder if/when they’re caught. That’s the difference.

This is accurate but also frightening. We should always question all “authority” and every law.

I don’t know what is hard to understand.
These 3 lads made a decision to commit crimes together. In the process of committing these crimes a law abiding citizen has his life extinguished. They are all 3 culpable for that man’s life.
Had the chap decided not to go out and commit crimes, maybe the other 2 wouldn’t have been so eager to commit crimes.
If you ever have little mix raced kids, please teach them to be good humans. These 3 people were not good humans.

Just make everything a capital offense.
Oh your kid got caught with drugs, he should have know better. Off to the gallows!
All I can say is most of these people are just flapping their gums because they are not responsibility for carrying out the punishment. If they had to look the family in the eye while telling them their son’s life was over because he broke into a car they would not be so tough.

People are weird. Molly Tibbits parents wanted the illegal alien killer of their daughter to be treated leniently too.
But doing so would put other young women in Iowa lives in danger.

Okay
I'd MUCH rather go that way that "let's just make jail a revolving door and oh... we have a no cash bail policy, you may go free. Just be nice from now on".

The moral to the story is very clear.
If you commit crimes, be prepared to be held accountable. It’s the only way a civilization can thrive.

And that's the problem... criminals now know they WON'T be held accountable. So I'm not really all that torn up when one is held overly accountable.

If we are really being honest…….
If Cubbies “victim” in this were named Austin instead of Sadik, she would not have started this thread.
