I thought tariffs were for creating (false) demand for domestic manufacturing and creeating 'murican jerbs. If that happens, there will be no revenue from tariffs. So... do you want tariffs to "work" or not work?

Let me know how that Social Securing and Medicare repeal goes. At this point, you'll also need to consider defaultion on some of the debt service. But hey, what could go wrong?

Da fuq I wouldn't and did. See the chart. There's your answer. I realize Dunning-Krueger is in full effect, but damn this one should be easy. It's impressive you still won't understand why this is a stupid idea, so you'll just dig in harder. It's fascinating to watch.

And a good portion of that revenue starts well below the 150K threshold...
And going further below is the only way to extract more revenue. Everyone thinks "tax the rich" but they don't make most of the income in aggregate. The "middle class" makes the most income.

Not to mention that the amount of people with zero tax liability have no skin-in-the-game for running our government. Want more free stuff? Why not? I'm not paying for it! Is essentially how we got to $35 Trillion and growing in debt.

Holy moly. How is cutting 35% of our revenue stream off "conservative". We're already running a $1.9 Trillion/yr deficit. Hell, we're on pace this year to rack up $1T in debt every 100 days.

And you think the "conservative" thing to do is collect less revenue, from an income group that already pays less in taxes by proportion to their aggregate income already?

This isn't a "conservative" approach. It's a "Tax the rich" approach, just in reverse.

It's simple math. Has nothing to do with who propsed it. Try again. Youre te only one making an ad hominem argument.

We don't need even fewer people paying taxes.

Not when you eliminate fraud and waste, reduce government and send it to the states, and generate alternative income streams. That is Trump's plan.

People seem to struggle with the big picture. They see Trump trying to lower taxes, and their only thought is "now there's fewer taxpayers than before." The idea that fewer taxpayers can be needed never crossed their minds.

They think Trump enacting tariffs must lead to higher prices. Any other outcome, even that they will never be enacted due to an agreement, is never a possibility to them.

Some say it's not fair that some will have to pay while others don't with Trump's plan, but how is everyone getting the first $150k tax free not fair? Do you complain because everyone gets the same standard tax deduction?

Worked like a charm last time.

I love this isht. Congrats. You're the only person that figured out it's a bluff. People that engage in international trade and diplomacy will never figure it out! They'll never have a clue. Hope they don't read the PoliBoard.

And even better are the ones that say "we need to fund the government on tariffs!" will turn around with a straight face and tell you "tariffs will end imports and create american jobs!". never realizing the logic tramp they've fallen into.

I joined this place because I found Leftists' dissonance and dedication to eing wrong fascinating. Came for the Leftists but have stayed for the Cult45

The amount of cuts that would be necessary for something like this to happen would be astronomical.

If we had 300 people like Massie, Mike Lees, and Rand Paul in congress, I'd get my hopes up. But sadly, we don't, so I don't see how this is workable at all.

If it does, though, I will GLADLY be the first person in here to eat shite covered crow.

Trump said he wanted the IRS gone. This is not the way. Just push for a consumption tax.

Agree completely. I'm against taxation, but if we are to have them, consumption taxes are the least bad of them all.

That's what this all boils down to. Trump isn't going to make those cuts.

He's going after Massie for voting against the big spending CR. I've read that there is some strategic reasoning for doing this, then making cuts in ~6 months. That may be the case, but 2016-2020 Trump supported some dogshit CR/Omnibus bills, and eagerly signed inflation-inducing covid checks.

Trump/congress aren't going to make the spending cuts to make up for that kind of tax cut, and the increased tariffs should be mitigated with lowered corporate taxes, not individual taxes.

Agreed. Though I do love the knee jerk reaction of far left wackos like you. For so long you were mad about the rich not paying their fair share. Now you are whining about the poor not paying. TDS is real.

It's been forever instilled into public thinking that abolishing the income tax and IRS is impossible.

This is a reframe of that thinking and it is great. Once the public at large starts to believe it is possible, then it will be.
