About the female swim team being ended.

After Affirmative Action is this the next thing regarding race/gender that SCOTUS will start to chip away at? (I sure hope so personally).

Can't cut and past for some reason, it's not "taking" but link to yahoo news and its all in the first paragraph.

Um, weren't the male and female teams ended?

So the men and women's team is being disbanded, and only the women sued?

Sounds about right.

And? Both the men's AND the women's teams were ended because the cost of upgrading/repair their facility was going to be too costly. It sucks, but not nearly as badly as trying to litigate a college into continuing to have sports teams it already can't afford. Colleges are, or at least used to be, about getting an education with sports participation being just a bonus.

We need to get back to more of that.

Title IX is a mess. Colleges with football teams are supposed to have a few more women's teams in other sports than they have men's teams (like having girls soccer but not boys). It's to make up for the large football teams that don't have a female counterpart.

LSU lost its wrestling and men's gymnastics teams for this.

Were men's soccer and rugby ever varsity scholarship level sports?

I'm pretty sure boxing last was in the early 50s and its demise as a varsity sport wasn't really due to title IX, but more to changing mores about the sport itself.

Just get half of the football team to identify as women.
Title IX solved.

We once had a Lieutenant Governor (Bobby Freeman) who was an All-American boxer at LSU in the early '50s.

To this point, Title IX has been “guys get fricked, women get subsidized.”

SCOTUS making this decision likely alters this a bit.

Cheer isn’t officially recognized as a sport for funding purposes IIRC. Despite injuries from cheer tending to be far more likely and devastating than injuries in a number of women’s sports because this involves people being thrown in the fricking air.
