nothing more than a legal matter.
There should be nothing legal about it. It should not involve government at all.
Ideally they would change the legal name of marriage to a "civil union" for everyone and then leave "marriage" to religion. However, that makes too much sense to ever become reality. So until then you will have to just get used to LGBTQ+ people getting the same tax benefits as straight people.

Also Tim Pool is being over-dramatic. The USSC being asked to overturn a case is close to a nothing burger. There's a long process before the writ would be accepted.

But at some point it needs to be overturned
Even if Obergefell were overturned (it won't be, just as interracial marriage will never be overturned), Congress passed and Biden signed/autopenned legislation in 2022 (Respect for Marriage Act) that repealed DOMA and codified that states must recognize ss marriages performed in other states.

No court is going to go back and undo “vested” rights that have been relied and acted upon for so many years.
The chaos would be ridiculous…

Marriage defined by government is not the same as a marriage defined by God. Government is motivated by the marriage penalty (extra revenue).

I will never personally recognize same sex marriage even if my government does.
In reality no one has to recognize any person marriage gay or straight… it ain’t some another person could validate or invalidate

In 2004, 11 states had a gay marriage initiative to legalize it during the presidential election. It failed in all 11 states - including by an 80-20% vote in MS and in Oregon it failed 55-45%. The shift towards acceptance has been faster than any voted item in US history. We are at the point now where being against it actually can get you in trouble and ostracized.

Even California voted against it, IIRC

It’s kind of weird that people are still arguing about gay marriage.

They did, but not in the 2004 presidential election. It was OR, UT, MT, ND, MI, OH, OK, AR, MS, GA and KY.

My 2 dogs (both males) lick each other's butts and hump each other. Are they an abomination against nature?

You idiots really want to lose the midterms huh?
Maybe us idiots value the holy sacrament of marriage given to us by our Creator over mid term elections for the war-all-the-time death cult uniparty.

You do know roughly 48% of (heterosexual) marriages end in divorce, right? Are you also strongly opposed to divorce?
And many (straight) people don't even bother getting married anymore. They just live together and f**k. Are you opposed to that?

Government recognized marriage doesn’t have anything to do with our holy sacrament of marriage. That can only be provided by the church.

quote:I agree that having children outside of wedlock and no-fault divorce are also issues that need to be addressed. This topic is about same-sex "marriage", though.
Having kids outside of wedlock is far more detrimental to society than 2-same sex people deciding to have a relationship together.
All these teenagers, young adult males committing crimes likely grew up with no father.
No-fault divorce in particular needs to be addressed; marriage should be taken more seriously and we shouldn't give couples and easy out to destroy their families.
quote:I don't know how it may directly affect your life, however it is a sin against God and our support of it as a nation is calling down judgement from God, and such judgement--whatever that may look like--will likely affect you and me, or it does already.
If Mary and Clare decide to buy a house together and scissor each other in the bedroom, tell me how that affects my life?
My moral compass is not based on pragmatism. For example, I will condemn sex slavery regardless of whether or not that practice directly impacts me.

There's cause-and-effect of sins. Mary and Clare's sins are affecting who?
John and Brooke decide to screw and she ends up pregnant. She either gets an abortion or has the baby and raises it as a single mom. Either way, the kid is affected by their actions. Society could be affected by an unstable kid being raised by a single parent.
It amazes me at the villification of homosexuality by straight people, while 99% of them are having unmarried sex. And bringing human beings into the world in unstable environments.
But please, continue to tell me how horrible it is to be Mary and Clare.
