Armed homeschoolers, to be more specific.

I'll transcribe an excerpt later, but this is too good to tarry.

YouTube Coffee w Scott Adams

I think I linked the starting point of the segment: 25:43 to 35:15.

If my kids were in primary/elementary, you bet your arse I would be going this route.

(1) We have homeschooled since my daughter was in kindergarten

(2) I've been working from a dedicated home office for 17 yrs

(3) Our home is well armed and augmented with substantial external passive defense measures

Homeschooling produces socially awkward little freaks with weak immune systems who have no idea how to interact with other humans

Even if that were true (it’s not), it’s still 100% preferable to what public schools are putting out these days.

Not necessarily. There are co-op programs that allow for kids to take extra classes (art, choir, etc.) with other kids or just to socialize. Kids make friends everywhere, including church, dance classes, little league, and down the street, just to name a few.

Also, who says the socialization in public schools is the right kind?

If I had young kids they would be homeschooled without a doubt.

I'm almost 46 and stopped conventional school in sixth grade. I've never had the flu and am rarely sick.

And, while I've been accused on many flaws--and in fact have many shortcomings and failures--an inability to interact with others isn't one of them.

These homeschooling threads always conveniently omit the MINOR detail that the majority of American parents are either unqualified or not dedicated enough to properly home school their kids.

After the 5th-6th grade level, homeschooling for many children essentially amounts to how dedicated is the kid to teaching themselves using the provided curriculum (of which the majority comes from conservative Christian producers and has glaring flaws in science and history). Around 65% of US homeschooled children are taught/supervised by a parent or adult without anything above a HS diploma/GED (and generally it’s a homemaker with little to no work experience).
I think only two states still require some sort of certified teacher supervision.

Can homeschooling work? Sure, and lots of very successful people were homeschooled. But it’s not some cure all for the flaws of our education system. It just exchanges liberal propaganda taught by under qualified individuals for conservative propaganda taught by under qualified individuals.

The bottom line is many who want homeschool just simply want the conservative version of what goes on in public schools.

That is not exactly a strong defense of public schools.

“OMG, homeschooling sucks because they get their propaganda from the right instead of the left!”

Most grade school teachers are unqualified to teach our children.

No they want a secular education but can’t get that in their public school system.

A decent number of TAs and college professors are in the same boat IMHO.

Yeah, that’s why I just took a huge dump on the public school system as well

The vast majority of private HS curriculum is produced by conservative Christian groups

Nearly 80% of homeschooling parents cite religion/religious beliefs as one of their reasons for doing so

The secular nature of schools is one of the leading criticisms of the public school system in any poll conducted on the topic
