Just heard from a friend's son who teaches at a public school in swla, that the principal has been falsifying observations. Wouldn't someone get in some pretty bad trouble if that is true? Evidently the principal is real behind on paperwork and trying to get caught up. I always thought the asst. principal was to help with that. I guess this goes to show why Louisiana education is so poor. What a chance to take if you could lose your job. No one probably cares.

I feel like there may be more to the story

falsifying observations

How does one 'falsify' an observation?

If he has seen repeated incidences of effective and/or poor teaching, sitting in a class for an hour to watch a dog and pony show doesnt change his 'observation' of a staff member

Sounds like someone is jelly of 'good' observations others are getting, or pissed that they got a bad one

I’m curious about the definition of “falsifying an observation,” too.

Also, how does the teacher mentioned in the post know observations are being falsified?

It may seem like a failsafe against poor-quality teaching, but I suspect observations in classrooms are much like evaluations in every profession.

Quality employees do their best even when no one is watching.

Low-performers improve during re-training but revert to old habits as soon as they are given more autonomy.

Removing low-quality employees can be more trouble than it is worth, and those employees end up being shuffled around within the system.

I don't know how it is today but I went to school in swla and the principals all had one thing in common. They were football coaches who ran into some losing seasons. Since they couldn't be fired as coaches they were promoted to principal.

They would have no idea how to do a teacher observation. They were that ignorant. And it was worse with the school board. There were 9 members of the board in New Iberia when I was growing up. NONE of them ever spent a day in college. Two of them didn't graduate H.S.

Things have changed a lot since the 1940s, Zach.

As a retired teacher (in Texas), I can tell you that this scenario is very much true. All Admin have divided up the teachers based on department. I never understood how they get behind now since discipline (of students) seems to be going out the window. If admin does not like a teacher, those are never behind. The ones falsified are usually the teachers who usually do what is to be done (calling parents, keeping up with grades, actually teaching, etc.). But yes, the falsifying observations do happen.

True. But I notice that a lot of principals today are women. That wasn't allowed back in the day. I would be fine with that except that a LOT of the women principals I've seen are lesbians. I can't stand lesbians.

WTF is wrong with you?

Principals while in the past were predominantly male, it is now split. More elementary level are female with secondary going male.
In regards to getting behind on observations the principal has to be disciplined enough to do them throughout the year. I always spread them out. I will say this however, if you are looking at getting rid of someone you better make damn sure you’ve followed timelines and procedures. If it’s not on paper it’s vapor.

Schools are a reflection of your society and community. They are just a mirror of what’s happening daily in that community.
