quote:the virus will be waiting for every single person who emerges from hibernation. you WILL have to face up to it unless you die of something else before so what's the difference? the only way you could avoid it is to leave the planet and grow your own food. so what is the point of shutting down the country? none.
“dude, what we’re doing to the economy is worth it. Every life matters.”
you can sit in your house and hope to prolong the inevitable or you can realize there are dangers in life and one of them is going to get you eventually so you might as well live life

So to be clear, you are saying spending several million dollars per death makes sense.
This is just another version of "caring" with other peoples' money.

quote:but it's worse than that. the healthcare system relies on the economy and people. we are bleeding it dry - for everyone for everything just to make a few 19 patients comfortable during this outbreak. that makes NO sense. the problem is these people are myopic and aren't looking down the road
how many people are going to die by destroying the economy. Suicides, malnutrition, depression, losing a home.

Nobody has a worse grasp on the economy than liberals and healthcare workers.

Yep it's really not a very useful comparison, since the economic trigger of this unemployment is so artificial.

quote:obviously the idea is if you look at any one individual, stay at home and hold the chance of infection at bay but at some point you have to ask yourself how you want to live life. are you going to never drive a car again because auto fatalities happen all day every day. are you going to build yourself a natural disaster bunker? are you going to walk around in bubble wrap? sure you're decreasing the chance of infection but you're also missing time with your grandkids and let's be honest, you don't have a lot of it available.
this shutdown is showing those in power just how much power they actually have and it can likely lead them to seizing that power

I don't know if your nurse friend is male or female, probably doesn't matter, but this feminine ethic is fricking us bad.
Thought this was interesting and stupid at the same time.

No, it is easy to explain, more men on average don't make emotionally driven decisions.

The numbers also exposed a gender gap in Ohio on whether the virus was a threat. While just 16.9 percent of Buckeye women said they felt the virus was being overblown, 30.5 percent of the state’s men gave that answer.
“The gender gap is tough to explain, especially since research shows that men are more vulnerable to the coronavirus than women,” Copeland said.

There’s is no taking to some people...we are surrounded by idiots who hope everyday the govt is going to save them and make all wrongs right

There will be no V-shaped recovery...it’s going to be a slow climb back up the mountain.

So many people are going to die over the response to this nonsense.

I think you’re right. Even if they drop the stay at home orders how many people will refuse to go out to restaurants, theaters, or anything other than groceries? Because if consumers don’t act like they did prior to this than it will not recover quickly.

unknown amount of people.
This is the kicker. We simply have no idea and are willing to ruin the lives of millions of people just because.
This is the greatest power grab and unconstitutional act since the Dems fought for slavery, Jim Crow and interned the Japanese.

I had about 10 things I wanted to go in on but was a bit busy and I’m trying to ease these types of friends in on the fact that I’m pretty cold hearted when it comes to situations like this.
I’m seeing so many health professionals(many Trump supporters) acting like this is their time to shine and their will to help people(and in some cases receive assloads of praise for it) are clowning their logic when it comes to how to respond to this crisis.

The unemployment #s and the small businesses (restaurants, retail) in particular are going away...not to mention the blood bath in the O&G space. We’ll comeback, just not quickly...in my view. Hope I’m wrong.

And have any governments cut jobs due to the loss in tax revenue? I haven't seen any.
