Lighten up, Francis

He had every legit pretext. WMDs or not, the repeated non-compliance with the cease fire agreement was basis enough. And, BTW, didn't he go to Congress (John Kerry "I voted for it before I voted against it") for approval?

I'm not saying we should have. But to hysterically throw out terms like war crimes and treason makes you look like a mouth-breathing sky screamer.

That makes Putin justified as thousands of innocent Ukrainians will die.

Civilian casualties are never okay. Not okay when we do it, not okay when Russia does it. Not okay when anyone does it.

That being said... we do not know anything that is happening in Ukraine right now. Idk how many civilians Russia has killed. Idk how many civilians Ukraine has killed. It's pointless to argue about that aspect until we know. We're in the middle of a demoralization campaign.. in which the west fully controls the flow of information coming out of Ukraine. We won't know some of what actually happened until after the war. Even then, we'll get diluted versions that make the winner look good and the loser look bad.

Iraq could have dispelled this myth pretty easily by allowing the UN inspectors into the suspect facilities, as they had already agreed to as part of the cease fire. Saddam told the world to frick off. What was the world supposed to think?

When our side is bombarding the airwaves of stories of wives, mothers and Ukrainian civilians taking up arms to defend themselves (which I am 100% in support of), there are consequences. The Russians can rightfully treat all civilians as potential combatants.

Not one of those was WMDs found after the invasion.

He told everyone he got rid of them. He told the truth.

The children gassed at Waco definitely would approve of invading a country on the other side of the planet.

As has been mentioned before in this thread: “we” are not the good guys.

frick you for me having to do this, the Kurds were killed by convention prohibited WMDs and died by the hundreds more times than we will ever know. WACO kids were kids by Janet Reno refusing to listen to advisors about how to storm the compound (yes I know bad idea, illegal, unconstitutional, etc) and used a crowd control gas that the ATF assured them wasn’t flammable. Kinda like when tasers first were issued to small police departments that still had alcohol based pepper spray.

Not really. There were a small handful of us that could smell the bs from a mile away. Of course we were shouted down and called unpatriotic at the time.
It’s still happening today, just the next generation. I fully suspect in 20 years we’ll be proven right again.

Lmao no it isn't. They are equally liquid.

This time the world is putting their foot down and standing up to the nonsense. That's a great thing. frick Russia. The government of Ukraine are not Nazis. There is literally no evidence to support any of Putin's claims.

we've gotten to the point where the leftists who called Bush a war criminal 20 years ago now defend the Iraq War because they've been co-opted by neocons. You frauds are all pieces of shite.

Exactly.

How the frick are we still talking about the Iraqi War?

To even say Iraq is similar to Ukraine is stupid. To say Russia’s pretext for invading is more solid than Bush and Iraq is beyond idiocy.

The Iraq War was based on a decade of Saddam strongly defying UN resolutions requiring destruction of NBC weapons and inspections to verify.

The Iraq War was a coalition of counties and UN backing was at least sought, but corruption from France Germany and Russia doomed it.

Obviously Iraq had WMDs, the question was whether Iraq had complied with disarmament but for over a decade Saddam consistently refused to allow unfettered inspections in order to determine whether they had complied.

Because the same people crying about Ukrainian sovereignty were the biggest cheerleaders for violating Iraqi sovereignty 2 decades ago. We had no business invading Iraq. We deposed the lid on that cauldron and Mesopotamia is less safe now because of it.

We'll never know that for certain because he had over ten fricking years to do whatever with them all the while hindering inspections. The act of someone telling the truth isn't to prevent verification of it.
