Vladimir Frolov, deputy commander of Russia's 8th Guards Combined Arms Army on Saturday. Frolov was given a military funeral in St. Petersburg's Serafimovskoe Cemetery on Saturday.

General Magomed Tushaev Tushaev, a leading Chechen special forces warlord, was killed on February 26 near Hostomel, Ukrainian authorities said. He commanded the 141th Motorised National Guard Brigade, and had been accused of leading several homophobic purges in Chechnya.

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky Sukhovetsky was the commanding general of Russia's 7th Guards Airborne Division and deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army. He was the first reported high-ranking loss for Russia's military—said to be killed by sniper fire on February 28, according to Ukraine.

Major General Vitaly Gerasimov Gerasimov was killed outside Kharkiv on March 7, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense said. He was a one-star rank major general of the Russian Ground Forces, and was chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army at the time of his reported death.

Major General Andrei Kolesnikov Kolesnikov, another one-star rank serviceman commanding the 29th Combined Arms Army, was killed in Ukrainian territory only four days after Gersimov's death, on March 11, Ukraine's military and media reported.

Major General Oleg Mityaev Mityaev, 46, was in command of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division, which he had led since 2020. Before the Ukraine war, the division was deployed in the Rostov region, at the Ukrainian border. He fought in the Syrian civil war and in 2016 was appointed commander of a Russian military base in Tajikistan.

Lieutenant General Andrei Mordvichev Mordvichev reportedly died when Ukrainian forces hit an airfield in Chornobaivka, near Kherson airport, the general staff of Ukraine's army claimed in a social media post on March 19. He was the commander of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army.

Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev Rezantsev was killed in a strike near the southern city of Kherson on March 25, according to Ukraine's Defense Ministry. He was the commander of 49th Combined Arms Army.

Our generals wouldn’t be out there. I’m amazed secdef went over there but that was more so a DHS visit by him to get updates and deliver funds. It’s disgusting what our military has come to.

General staff for the Russians is like colonel-level rank for the US military given their duties from what has been said.

High ranking officers? Yes. But not as influential as the rank would suggest.

Russians won't touch him. He is much more valuable as the US Secretary of Defense.

They have had problems with soldiers not acting without direct officer supervision for many decades. Way less reliance on nco leadership like we have.

I’ll give them credit for that. We wouldn’t lose that many Majors in an operation like this. Maybe not even that many Captains.

They probably opposed Putin, thus being put on the front lines.

I hope they give serious consideration to the concepts of diversity and inclusion when extending promotions to replace them.

When our generals are trying to understand white rage instead of training his troops I have no respect for him and would not fight for a man with little intelligence or compromised morals.

The Pentagon is afraid a few Russian junior officers might monkey shine him when he walks by like they did Obama.

Solid point. By the looks of it, he might have been walking around a large democratically run city right here.

How the frick does a General Officer get killed in war? I can see one maybe in an accident or the other forces get extremely lucky and are just in the right place, but that would be major news. So far 8 have died in a war that has been going on for 2 months. That is just a very inefficient way of using your military. In Iraq and Afghanistan the highest rank to get killed were two Colonels ,one of them was my former Battalion Commander Col John McHugh. They got lucky and hit his convoy with an IED ,but a Field Grade Officer dying on the battlefield is not and should not be a common occurrence much less a General Officer.

They get killed because nobody trusts anybody else in Russia so everything is always both top down and at the same time hands on.
