Why would Ukraine fire on an eastbound airplane headed for Russian airspace? It just doesn't seem as plausible as the likelihood that the same people who shot down Ukrainian airplanes in the same area earlier this week were also responsible for shooting down this airplane.

Wouldn't the Airline have to file that plan with officials in nations they overfly?

I don't doubt that the Russians or the separatists in Eastern Ukraine shot down the plane. I'm just parsing whatever explanation they give.

yes. but, if you and I were discussing the LSU v Bama game and I say "they are gonna lose"...you may infer that my "they" refers to Bama. Otherwise, i'd say "we" (though, I don't use the we in this case).
My point was, IF the Ukrainians said "they", I'd assume it means the Russians.
If the Russians said "they"....i'd think the Ukrainians.

Did an american citizen die? If not, then we do nothing I hope. If so, missile strikes against the AA? I'm pretty ignorant regarding the nature of this kind of combat so I don't know if what I am saying is feasible.
