that's true. this isn't a long term industry, we are already replacing drive throughs with AI, I'd imagine call centers will be gone within 10 years.

You'll always have some of what people in here are referring to as call centers. Outsourcing of it comes in many forms. The biggest driver of this is actually non it businesses demanding it services for cheaper.

Quality is also not driven by location necessarily but by experience. A tier 1 call center agent in us is typically following same script as tier 1 call center agent in India or wherever.

This is typically why you see lower tier resources outsourced while architecture and design guys are here in us(although not always). All of this is not driven to spite the American worker it's driven because the customers of it want it to be cheaper to do their core business and they want someone available to work on it 24/7/365

AI is going to put most of the Indian call centers in the poorhouse, anyway. But 100% in favor.

Engineering too please. We had to work a job where they used engineering from India and they suck badly. No clue what they are doing and what they try to push does not even work out in the field. It was a mess.

I would disagree, while they aren’t the same thing the end result of both of them is the same. It’s taking away opportunities from Americans and giving them to non-Americans for the sake of profit.

One involves immigration… which absolutely can be controlled by the government

One tries to tell companies what they can do in other countries… which is not the time of our government

This will just immediately invest us further into AI. Call center is already an extremely low margin business....

That’s going to happen anyways. AI can’t possibly be as annoying as Palminder aka Joseph

Why is it a businesses job to employ Americans? I thought businesses purpose were to make a profit?

It may not be, but it should be the job of a country to protect the jobs of it’s citizens.

So you think it's a governments responsibility to intervene in a market and ensure jobs for citizens? Should we ban AI because it's going to replace these tier 1 jobs? Automated driving because it will eliminate driving jobs?

This change could devastate the Indian IT sector & cost India millions of jobs.

IDGAF about them. Maybe their govt will start sterilizing them so we don't have to take their slum sewer overflow. We are destroying our culture.

Unfortunately though, Trump is just putting all of this on the negotiation table. At the end of the day he'll give them a permanent yearly h1b visa #. Essentially destroying our cultures future. Sad.

Not many things make me rage faster than trying to get help and being met with a broken English accent on the other end of the line.

If AI is going to “takeover” like some people believe, then yes there will need to be some sort of government intervention. I’m not going to pretend to know the answer, but the government can’t idly standby while 50% of jobs are eliminated by AI (not saying this will happen, this is just a hypothetical).

This could negatively impact my business. One of my biggest clients relies heavily on outsourced services in India. It's completely unrelated to any sort of call center though. The American public have zero contact with the Indian resources of this client.

Hopefully this isn't a blanket proposal. I'm all for putting an end to the call centers there. My current car warranty is just fine.

Yay! I just love small government conservatives!!

We are outsourcing ourselves into oblivion. Something must be done about it. I’m a small government conservative but not to the point of suicide.
