But it did happen because they weren’t kidding when they said by any means necessary.

In a normal, sane world, Both Russia and the US intel agencies aren't working at the same time to snare a Presidential candidate, but that happened in 2016 and Trump deftly maneuvered the situation.
This situation in 2023 was like a 1/10 on the difficulty scale and he acted like a narcissistic idiot and gave them what they wanted.

Exactly. Regardless of who was the target, the gross abuse of our justice system to target a political opponent is the issue here. If people think this will end when Trump is gone are delusional. The ones wielding this fascist power will not stop and will only become more aggressive. As this force consumes more of America's liberty it will strengthen and eventually move to silence all opposition. Folks need to get over Trump and see the bigger picture.

Quit worrying about how others are supposed to react to your king. It’s Trumps situation and nobody needs to say much about it. Because you will demand a new statement every other day.

Right, which circles us back to my original point here that any perceived "recklessness" is all but completely meaningless - or at least the term is completely misdirected as to what is really going on here and to whom it should be pointed, absent a bunch of folks buying into the whole scam.

It’s obviously a political prosecution but Trump’s dumb arse keeps compounding the problem by not complying, obfuscating, and not listening or taking legal advice and he gets these process crimes piled on him. He should have known better by this point. Again that part was totally avoidable.
DeSantis wouldn’t be making these mistakes.

Right. We agree with you.
But knowing that, a wise man would be hyper vigilant about any avoidable missteps.
Can we at least agree about that?

Yes, I don't think anyone is arguing that (BamaAtl, et al aren't around)

Exactly.

2016 Trump wouldn't be making these mistakes, either.
His fans keep pretending that he's got the same mental ability/clarity.

He’s having trouble putting a legal defense team together.

Absolutely.
If your kid gets his arse beat by another for taunting him, you can still blame the perpetrator while holding your kid accountable to low standards.

I don't know. I'm still not buying the notion of a "misstep" here. I guess I just reject the entire validity of the "game" in which we are supposed to be criticizing how he played it.

That case likely doesn't apply to this scenario.
EVEN THEN, again...
Trump's biggest concerns have nothing to do with the charges relating to possessing the documents (and/or their classification status or his legal right to possess them at MAL).
Trump's biggest concerns flow from his reckless and idiotic behavior AFTER the investigation began, which are completely separate from the documents charges and will survive even if the documents charges are dismissed.

Dude, it's very likely he had his agents move documents while the investigation was going on, which he then claimed he didn't have (for subpoena purposes), which were then found after the search.
All he had to do was turn those over but, for whatever reason, he just can't help himself.

This is a shitty take…trump and his son has been dragging the hell outta DeSantis…why should he give Trump grace by tossing him a rope…?
Trump put boxes of documents in his bathroom, admitted on tape (allegedly) that he had documents that weren’t declassified …he deserves the negative look for being dumb

I don’t know all the details as I think it’s 99% a witch-hunt too
But, my guess is the smart play would have been to return everything asked for and litigate on the other end.
He may have fallen in their trap. Lord knows they have been trying forever.
