You’ve fallen victim to a comparison that makes no sense given the history of the respective hemispheres. Never in recent t times has a foreign power had such sway in Mexico and never did ANYTHING happen in UKR to threaten Russia’s borders. Not even close. Instead, Putin sought to regain territory he believes to be Russian through brutal, offensive warfare. If you want to allow him that, fine. But there is no legitimate, non pretextual rationale for Russia invading a peaceful neighbor. And you know this.

This was raw power and imperialism and Putin all but said so years ago when he said the breakup of the USSR was a catastrophe. Perhaps it’s more probable that UKR wanted some US presence because it has a terribly belligerent neighbor!?
