Kim gave the West a little taste, and now he thinks we are so-jonesing for a full hit that we will give him anything he wants.

Can we get details on these drills?

When I was there all the exercises were defensive.

Naw, the drills bring pressure on NK. There is no deal. You don't get the benefits of a deal until such time as there is a deal. This type of behavior does strengthen NK's hand.

Trump should respond with - well if you don't want a deal, we can return to escalation.

One thing we need to remember is that we have no idea about how firm a grip Kim has on N. Korea. I am sure the idea of eliminating their nuclear program is not popular among much of the North Korean army.

This might be the least surprising thing I read today

You are wrong. SK wants a situation where threat of another NK invasion is nonexistent.

Agreed. Although I don't think the threat of invasion can be eliminated until the DMZ is stripped of most armaments and nukes are destroyed.

I sincerely hope this is just a bump that will be smoothed over quickly, but for all the talk of Trump getting a Nobel Peace Prize, this is a grim reminder that thus far he has increased the likelihood of a nuclear crisis in Iran and achieved nothing concrete regarding ending the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula.

If anything this could make a deal more likely, there are more chips on the table. N. Korea has just signaled these exercises are important to them.

A bit of tension going into the talks is probably a good thing.

Kim knows that Trump has been overselling and that Kim can use that as leverage.

If he threatens to walk, let him walk.

He’ll eventually calm down and come back or he won’t. We can deal with other issues while he is pouting like a child.

The train is not slowing down for Kim to get off. If he jumps, it's going to hurt.

This is great news for liberals. They will be in this thread gloating, which is pathetic.

Do we take the de facto Nobel Peace Prizer back from the Great Uniter.

North Korea has been calling these joint exercises a provocation for ages now, so I'm not sure how much we've learned other than that they are at least trying, if not insisting, on significant concessions being made prior to a deal being worked out.

We need to knock it off and suspend the damn drills for a month or so until the summit at least takes place so we can see if peace is even possible.

This is just a boneheaded move to continue with these drills at this critical time. I am 100% Trump but these should have been placed on hold.

There’s been a whole lot of chicken counting going on, and absolutely no hatching beyond Kim and Moon shaking hands and crossing each other’s borders.

It’s very possible that Kim has played Trump, letting him get his Nobel chants and praise, only to pull the rug out and make him look foolish.
