No. If god forbid this happened to me, I would understand the blame goes squarely on the a-hole who pulled the trigger, not politicians or video games or movies.

I imagine my opinion on gun ownership would be seriously challenged if my spouse and/or children were killed.

Instead of guns, substitute something else into your scenario: knives, cars, boats, hammers, drugs, alcohol. Is the outcome for guns different from the others? If so, why?

If the murderer was going to kill my kin regardless, then my opinion would not change.

Let's say tanks and marines in full swat gear came rolling up the street tomorrow and you and your children were thrown into work camps and fed moldy rice until you couldn't work any longer and then were incinerated but only after the marines had their way with your wife and kids.

Would your opinion of ever increasing government power and regulation change then???

You cant base policy of the emotional and often irrational beliefs people turn to in times of crisis.

How much someone hates guns after someone they love is shot is irrelevant

Yea you can't say that you are pro-gun. By the way background checks already exist.

Hard to say. Until you've been in that position you never know. Different folks would react differently.

I'd probably hope the vigilante laws would be relaxed.

No, my opinion wouldn't change.

I have a spine.

Why don't you?

No, but I could see how an individual could change their policy stance on any issue when it becomes personal.

I would if only limited to the severely disturbed. But where is that line and who determines it. It would be easy to include anyone that has ever been on a psychiatric med or received care for any psychiatric complaint.

Yep this is my problem with it. What if taking an antidepressent, ever, disqualifies? All it will do is cause people to avoid seeking help for temporary mental/emotional disorders.

You know that question "have you ever wanted to hurt yourself or someone else?" Hell, who hasn't wanted to hurt someone else at a specific time?

I have made it this far in this thread and I cannot imagine that I would blame the fact that guns are available for the fact that some cretin murdered my loved one.

I would be closer to blaming the system for allowing the cretin on the street - especially if he had priors. or if he were some mental garbage.

I would blame myself for not providing a safer situation.

Blaming an inanimate instrument would never enter my mind. Of course I grew up in the 40s where a loaded gun was always withing reach in the house.

If my loved one was stabbed and killed with a spear would I become anti-spear?

Ok I'm assuming this thread is referring to the recent events in California & a victims father who went on a gun control rant. So this being said have you watched the kids YouTube posts? This kid gave many warning signs of instability, posted his rants for the world to view and I have also read that the police paid this kid a visit just a week or so before the tragedy due to his instability (don't believe all u read or hear though). So anyway this kid is basically frustrated because he can't get laid & wanted to take out all of his aggression on blondes & the bruts (his words) that they give themselves to. So one of the victims dad goes on a gun control rant with the media watching to spread the word. While I feel for the father & the victims family's shouldn't the real rant be about legal prostitution so this kid could have gotten laid once or twice considering he also killed 3 people via knife in hand?

No.
My son was in the Marines so I was aware of the risk of his being killed with a gun. Thankfully, he wasn't. If my first wife was murdered I'd chip in some money to get the killer a really good defense attorney.
