I think you saw the 100% more for the director and it being a "black" horror movie...
His followup "Us" was no better...
Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t care for politics in my film. I get past a lot of it and don’t care if I can avoid snippets from the people that think I’m a Nazi. Usually when I hear them open their mouth it’s the only thing that will give me pause.
That being said, I thought Get Out was great and much more an indictment on Rich Liberals than it was whites or conservatives It was an actual unique take on horror. And Peele didn’t say anything to make me think otherwise.
On the other hand I was super pumped about the new Watchmen series and could have gotten past most of it if I hadn’t read comments from the writers and a lead actress. It was just a bit too much for me.

The movie was funny, and they also poked fun at the liberal SJW granddaughter and other left-wing types.
Anybody who walks away from "Knives Out" with this impression is looking for something to complain about. The movie exposed left-wing hypocrisy as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the flick, and I'm 100% MAGA.

"KNIVES OUT is a ton of fun: a slippery, stylised murder mystery, littered with zingers, that also operates as a satire of Trump's America.

Yes, but if they don't give out awards to enough black actors, then #boycott

I saw this movie and it’s trash. Rian Johnson is a talentless hack. He knows that if he packs his movies with overt political statements he’ll get rave reviews. There’s zero subtlety in his work because it’s no longer necessary.
His bitch arse also ruined Star Wars.

Anyone with an IQ above room temperature will understand what Johnson was doing with his character development.
The guy created an immigrant character that was literally physically incapable of lying.

Hollywood is the embodiment of rich white trash.

As if I didn’t hate Rian Johnson enough already for that abortion of a Star Wars movie.
Even the way he spells his first name irritates me.

Johnson really is a hack. What a strange ascent. To say nothing of any political matters.

Having seen the movie, it really just uses politics to lambast the characters and show how petty and hypocritical they are, left and right. One character is the child of an illegal, and both the conservative and liberal sides of the family try to manipulate her into supporting their arguments. Then, when they realize they need something real from her, they turn on all their political convictions to threaten and extort her to do what they want.
Knives Out is a great movie, and politics really aren’t a serious part of it. It’s mostly just used as a way to show the family bickering in petty fashion like a real family at thanksgiving or something.

I've had a few YouTube videos thrown at me the past week or so showing that many social engineering and so-called "woke" leftist-agenda films are bombing at the box office.

Exactamundo! They were all broke dicks and con artists living off of their father/father-in-law/grandfather's money and, when that was threatened, showed their real colors.

You may be but I'm there with you. I watch films for entertainment; that's it. I'm not interested in Hollywood's message about the planet, the homeless or any other real issue because Hollywood isn't qualified to inform me on anything of importance. I don't even enjoy products that are technically well done, like Breaking Bad, because watching a bunch of horrible people isn't entertaining. I've got to have an interest in seeing at least one character succeed.

My deal is that media has to be entertainment first and foremost.
Politics can be present but not be an overwhelming part of the work. Mainly because “subtle” is not in the vocabulary of most people in Hollywood.
An example I love to trot out of this done well is the original Twilight Zone, where Rod Serling would approach topics that were normally hot button (ex - nuclear weapons) through a sci-fi / fantasy / horror filter to where you weren’t necessarily being beaten over the head with it.
He didn’t always succeed but those attempts were better than a lot of hamfisted works which don’t really age well from the same timeframe.
