Meh....after the past 3 years, I am pretty sure this is what is up:
Rian made The Last Jedi.....a movie so horrific, that it likely has ended the Star Wars series as a cultural phenomenon in our country. Granted he had help from Kathleen Kennedy and others but this is the guy who KILLED Star Wars....no small feat.
Now, the Lefties are telling him, Look: "want to get you career back? We got just the project for you"

Gee, sounds like the same circle jerk around Get Out, which was a horror film centering on white-on-black racism.
Jordan Peele got an Oscar for that one. A fricking Oscar for a horror movie. They were so “frick whitey!” it overcame their own genre prejudices to slap him on the back.

I think you saw the 100% more for the director and it being a "black" horror movie...
His followup "Us" was no better...
