Many have been converted to NG, not "replaced".

Get informed before opining.

They are the same plants. Just changed fuel and can change back as well.

I guess progfilth have a different definition of "replaced" than normal people.

Not surprising since you will bow down before a chick with a dick.

I hate that the mines were shutdown the way they were but we need to be switching to a nuclear grid. It’s the only thing that makes sense

Wyoming has been the #1 producer of coal since the 80’s. It produces 3 times more than West Virginia.

It is easier and cheaper to mine in Wyoming, because of surface mining. Wyoming has thick seams of coal that are close to the surface. Because of surface mining it would be easier to start a new mine or restart a closed one. Coal from Wyoming is cleaner burning, because it has lesser sulfur content.

Appalachia’s coal is deeper with smaller seams, so probably not reopening a lot of mines in West Virginia.

I saw surface mining on Minonite farm’s in Indiana. They were able to fill in a lot of the holes after they were finished.

I actually agree with you here. However, it wasn’t free markets that killed the coal industry. It was over regulation by the government. Trump is basically saying that he is getting the government out of the way so that the market can correct itself and this industry can then make a come back. I would think you would be all for that.

It was transition to a newer, better technologies that killed coal (e.g., the death of Blockbuster and the rise of Netflix).

Nuclear? Yes. Natural gas? Debatable. Green energy? Not even close to accurate

Which government regulations do we want to remove? I'm curious which ones we specifically want removed vs kept to keep coal viable.

All of them.

Take global warming out of it and coal mining is still a nasty business that has lots of harmful shite going on to deal with. Also coal mining companies are notoriously shitty for workers and local community. There's not a huge investment in the community they suck up resources and gtfo.

Let the local communities decide if it's worth it to them. This isn't the 1800s. People know the history and the risks. If the locals approve, the Fed regulation shouldn't stand in the way. That's why I said to remove regulations and let the market decide. That includes the job market as well.

The Blue Creek seam here in Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Walker counties is, also. But it's met grade coal. I know most of ours from Jim Walter went overseas. Not sure about now, I've been out since 2019.

I am fine with govt "allowing" them to operate as long as there arent any incentives or freebies attached.

Small business will benefit. What I dont want is govt pushing coal over more advanced and efficient means of power. Even steel production doesnt need coal anymore.

But good luck finding employees. Our gold mines pay an average of 110k locally and they struggle to find competent workers.

Not sure if really this stupid or just trolling.

You do know most of Asia is still powered by coal right?

You do know that stuff can be out on a boat and shipped?

You bleeding heart idiots just can’t contain your stupidity.

No. I’m just not dumb enough to say that people whose jobs have been destroyed by government regulations are victims of the free market. Because you, being partisan as frick, are dumb enough to do exactly that in this thread and all over this board.

Neither am I.

In fact, I believe I said they are not victims because many sat on their asses for years while the job market literally exploded.

You seem to be dumb enough to think these people are owed a livelihood while making minimal effort. I understand they need to evolve, move or find better motivation.

You , on the other hand believe they are entitled, and it proves how far left you are sliding on this rudderless journey of yours.
