Reparations for Southerners

I was thinking that white Southerners should be entitled to government reparation payments. Hell, we were defeated in a war by the evil Union. Our properties were burned, confiscated, etc. We were occupied by the Union Army. It does not matter that all of this happened approximately 170 years ago, right? I feel oppressed; give me some money.

My ancestors from Georgia and South Carolina agree, reconstruction was awful.

Current spoiled people’s knowledge of the civil war and it’s aftermath is pathetic. For the most part, it was simple men fighting for the homeland they grew up in. You also had the North almost illegally force the Irish into service as they came in. Southern slave owners did not number that many relative to the war effort.
Also, poor whites were sharecroppers after the war and many of them poor as blacks. You also had the confiscation of property you mentioned and the entire infrastructure of the South was destroyed. The idea that it was a fight so every white man could have a personal black pet is ridiculous.

I'm pretty certain I can qualify, ... I don't support reparations claims, and I'm a helluva lot more entitled to reparations than most of those asking for it ... and I can easily prove it.

That's what is so confusing about the whole "reparations" thing.

Yes, people of all races have been enslaved throughout history. If we want to focus on black slavery, the fact is that most Africans were sold into slavery by other Africans. The fact is the great majority of white Southerners never owned slaves. The fact is that only an extremely small number of slaveowners had a large number of slaves. By the way, there were free blacks in the South that also owned slaves.

My family still has records of my ancestors asking for money from Grant's command during the civil war.
The surprising part is they got a response from the provost marshal with money and an itemized bill for goods taken, even if it meant they got it 4 years after the fact.

I mean I can't figure out who they want "reparations" from even, I mean they can't get past step one. Its the most basic question yet none of them can answer it.
I guess I can probably trace back some relative that was a slave of the Roman empire and ask reparations from Italy, I guess.

I know this is just a devil’s advocate argument, but I still say frick all that! Civil war happened >150 years ago, and I am more than happy making my own way and moving forward. Im sure Tuscaloosa, AL doesn’t have the economic opportunities as say NYC, but Im doing just fine. And if I want something different for myself I am more than able to relocate.

My Grandpa went to school until 9th grade then it was time to work the fields
My great grandfathers property had the “strawberry pickers” house for traveling labor
It was just a huge room, no water that I can remember.
Growing up my Grandpa worked the fields every summer & before & after school
He’s now 94 & still talks of one of the black kids whose parents worked the fields
His name was Blue, he & my Grandpa would sneak off & eat strawberries together

I'm not aware of any Statute of Limitations for War Crimes. In fact, we know from our experience with bringing Nazi war criminals to justice that there IS NO statue of limitations on War Crimes.
The USA's claim that the Union must be safeguarded sits on a throne of lies and hypocrisy. CHAZ's independence is respected and acknowledged by Union gangsters whilst the independence of the CSA is responded to with Invasion and cruel intentional acts of destruction.
How can an illegitimate Union of states have any moral standing at all to claim any right of existence ??

You are right again GeauxFightinTiger. Hell, I am descended from Irish stock. Perhaps my ancestors had their land taken away by the English; the Queen probably owes me some cash. In addition, slaves were quite frequently replaced by Irish for canal digging projects in New Orleans; slaves were worth a lot of money and malaria was rampant. I guess the slaves owe me , because my ancestors might have substituted for them. And if Irish lives meant less than that of the slaves, I want money from the US government too.
