Rep. Lauren Boebert Calls Separation of Church and State 'Junk,' Says Church Should Direct
Posted by BayouBlitz

quote:
Two days before her primary election, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, 35, preached to churchgoers at an event, "The church is supposed to direct the government, the government is not supposed to direct the church."
"I'm tired of this separation of church and state junk. This is not in the Constitution, it was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like what they say it does," she told the Colorado Springs crowd on Sunday.
Oof.
quote:
the First Amendment, which states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Legal scholars, government officials and the Supreme Court have upheld this clause as establishing what people refer to as the "separation of church and state."
quote:
The "stinking letter" Boebert alludes to is Founding Father Thomas Jefferson's correspondence with the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802. In his letter, Jefferson, a central figure in establishing the U.S. government, wrote that the First Amendment built "a wall of separation between Church & State."

She’s quickly getting closer to my shite list.
I’m tempted to go back to the Libertarian Party.
We cannot allow the right to go further right like the left has done themselves.

She's kinda right.
There was to be no Church of America.
But individual states supported churches into the 1830s.

Some in the GOP don't know how to take a win.
I'm sure she meant Christian principles, but she should also know how the media will run with it.

She's as wrong about this as Hank Johnson was about Guam tipping over.

Oooh! Oooh!
I get Hank Johnson!
"My fear is that the whole island [Guam] will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."
Edit: Dangit, Floyd!

Looking at the state of things in this country...how could putting faith in God ahead of faith in government be a bad thing?

Do you stand for the Constitution or not?

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll likely be put against the wall by either side if they ever got full control.
The Left will do it because I'm Right of Mao and a threat.
The Right will do it because I'm an atheist.
In the meantime, I'm likely to stay alive longer on The Right given they have zero control over fricking anything at this point. So, that's where I'll continue to plant my flag.

She has to have just said the wrong words, right?
Like, she believes religion can influence the government.
She's not calling for the Holy Roman Empire 2.0, is she?
