Man, he wouldn't make it through the initial HR screen if he applied for the manager position at your Home Depot, but you guys sent him to DC.

Congrats I guess.

Bandit... let me use a Texas phrase to describle Clay...

"All hat and no cattle"

He talks a good game and he loves, loves annoying the left... which is probably good enough for most people.

But what has he actually done to improve the lines of the residents of his district?

Him and Jeff Landry are cut from the same cloth.

The most impressive thing Clay has ever done in his life is get a bunch of black ministers to stand beside him while he calls out thugs. Which... I mean... is impressive...

Higgins is an avatar for the money/strings behind him. He's like Biden in the WH (where we know Biden himself isn't doing shite).

The Deep State actors behind Higgins could have anyone win that seat and replace him. Why they want to promote a fricking idiot I will never understand. I have seen Higgins try to read in person and he could barely do it.

It’s weird, in this day and age, that even Louisiana would have multiple congressmen who didn’t obtain so much as a bachelors degree.

Yeah, I know people will cite all the billionaire entrepreneurs who didn’t. But that’s apples to oranges to these guys’ paths. It just sort of looks like not meeting a bare minimum sort of professional type requirement to me, no matter how people try to explain it away.

Based on the posters talking shite about him, it tells me he is voting correctly.

Yeah I mean I'm literally laughing trying to formulate a proper response to that re: Higgins.

Dude parlayed a Crimestoppers career (that got him fired) into a Congressional seat.

The part I was kind of referencing with stout that's annoying is he's an avatar and an uneducated idiot is what plays in my Congressional district.

Higgins is told what to say and who to vote for. That part is somewhat irrelevant to him being the biggest idiot in Congress.

I appreciate your other words - I am not familiar with the person beyond what I see on national TV = I was commenting on what he said, and what I recall hearing 'that voice' say in the past.

As for Louisiana Politics - I was born and raised in Louisiana - My wife's father worked for Huey Long in central LA. I went to college while Earl Long was strutting around with Gale Storm. I don't have to be told about the nature of Louisiana politics and I shouldn't have to demonstrate my aversion to anything associated with it. It was my impression that this voice sounded different than my impression of "LA Politics" - I won't apologize for that - I will admit being wrong, if proven.

My problem is the quote I emphasized - not just related to Clay Higgins, but the near impossibility of avoiding that very phrase when talking about any member of Congress.

Members of Congress vote on legislation - they engage in WORDs to conduct argument in support of - or in opposition to - any proposal on the floor. Other times they address an empty room to get "words into the record" to use for campaign purposes. They appear in various committees to discuss with 'experts' or representatives of the various organizations to discover and flesh out the DETAILS of the subject matter. Then they caucus together and try to convince each other of what the best LEGISLATION ought to say.

But all they can do is TALK - and VOTE. They have ZERO POWER to "do" ANYTHING.

SO - my eternal question - and I have selected your response because it was more rational than so many of the other "but what has he DONE!!" questions that pop up every time anyone says something about a person they don't LIKE!!!

WHAT should they DO!!!

OR

WHAT should have NOT have DONE!!!

IF you or anyone cannot amend the statement of "what has he done" then those words are empty and meaningless garbage.

Again - your post was entirely commendable - I used it as a trigger.

Not surprising that this board fawns over somone who doesn't even have a community College degree (he's like us!) and a former law enforcement officer (this board has shown itself to be full of statist boot lickers).

Dude... Clay Higgins has a LOT to harp on if you want to shite on him but if you think the lack of a degree is one of them, that says a lot about you. Most people that know him (much less this board) fawn over Garret Graves but he doesn't have a degree either.

again - another responsible post trying to educate me on Higgins.

I appreciate it. I really do.

I am now addressing a related problem - one that I'd like to see developed - I always want to learn.

Here is my position on on politics

1 - Politics is a dirty game

2 - I judge politicians by what they accomplish - Legislators produce legislation - Executives execute that legislation - Judges make sure the constitution is followed.

3 - I would love that all politicians I support live like I would like. I would love that they are all well spoken. I will not tolerate proven frauds or criminals.

4 - But I only have a little power - my vote - and my voice in common conversation.

5 - I vote for the most acceptably conservative, but least evil person, on every ballot. I do not care about their vocabulary or life style - as long as it is legal.

Finally - I believe this nation is on a rapid slide into unspeakable disaster. Our elections are unreliable, bordering on obviously fraudulent. Major corporative interests have achieved the status of oligarchy and we have sacrificed common decency and morality and compassion for gain of more political power.

And I am on a glide slope to know I'll not survive long enough to see if the nation can recover. I am getting really mad about that. I have 3 great-grandsons who will have to grow into adulthood during the next 20 years. I weep when I realize what I am leaving them.

Remember when legislators were statesmen who had every day jobs like business owners, lawyers, bankers, and the like? Serving and representing people from their districts while in session but working when not?

If I ever ran for congress I’d vote NO on anything that is not constitutional. I’d run on that. Any new law is taking rights away from some one somehow. Bastiat was right.

However, I don’t think I’d want to put my family thru the BS that the Ds - Prog/Commies put any conservative thru.

Here is how I evaluate legislators - be they federal, state, or local councils.

1) What bills do they put forth? What bills are they writing and/or taking an active role pushing? What interests are being represented by those bills?

2) How accessible are they and their staff to their voters? Do they respond to communication or just give generic messages?

3) How do they get along with others? You can't be an effective legislator if you are a lone wolf.

4) How involved are they in the things that matter most to their voters?

For #4, for Higgins, to me that begins and ends with hurricane recovery and coastal restoration. And while he likes to run his mouth about COVID investigations, he's sure silent on the things that (I think) matter most to his voters.

So you are right... they can't single handed do anything... but they can sure push and be on the right side of getting things done... or at least showing what should be done.
